Just realized this month is supposed to be under the hashtag #FantasyIndiesSpooktober instead? Whoops.
#fantasyindiesspooktober Day 7 POV/tense
I have a strong preference for past tense, though I've read some fanfic in present tense that didn't completely throw me off.
I usually write in third person, occasionally first. For reading, I'm good with either. Never been comfortable with second person.
#FantasyIndiesSpooktober Day 7 POV: Code and Katana has multiple viewpoints and a friends-to-lovers romance.
Book One is free.
CW: graphic violence, profanity, sexual content. Includes AI-generated writing.

#fantasyindiesspooktober Day 7 POV/tense
The only thing I am not usually fond of is when it switches from 3rd to 1st in the same book because it makes my brain itchy. 2nd isn't my favorite pov, but I've read some books where it works well in small doses for specific reasons. đź’•
Almost Criminal mostly flip-flops between Bonnie (protagonist) and Lian (deuteragonist). Sometimes someone else gets the limelight if I need to show something where neither of them are present. All in 3rd person limited.
First person POV. I love being inside someone's head and having the chance they're an unreliable narrator.
Past tense. Better for suspense and flexibility.

Day 7 - POV and Tense preferences
I am a close 3rd person past tense girlie all the way!!!
I prefer first person past tense for writing. Reading, I'm open to most anything; I think I get more engaged with first person, but I read just as much third person.

POV/tense preferences
As a reader? I like most book POVs/tenses (with the exception of 2nd person. I have a tough time with that one.)
As a writer, I bounce between 1st/3rd person, but I enjoy 1st more (I love getting into the character's headspace.)
7) POV and tense preferences
I default for third person close—usually rotating third person close, because I feel too constrained sticking with just one character's POV the whole time.
If I do focus on just one character, I consider using first person.
But...
#FantasyIndiesSpooktober 7: POV and tense preferences
I write multiple POVs much of the time, so prefer third person limited for such books. I can and do write first person present/past sometimes. I'm fighting a MC right now who wants to be a first person narrator.
I may have some issues with Jac Carey's Kushiel series, but I love how her MC seems to speaking to me as if through a letter or a conversation on a porch. That's the kind of 1st-person I prefer.

#FantasyIndiesSpooktober 7/Oct/26: POV and tense preferences?
I prefer to write in close 3rd POV, past tense, with occassional 1st person. It's just what seems natural to me. I grew up reading a lot of books like Agatha Christie, Ian Fleming and Sherlock Holmes, so I guess it's what I'm used to.
5- #FantasyIndiesSpooktober- In A Dance of Bow & Blade (a.co/d/0e4hYffG), there is a masquerade in the beginning of the story. Robyn wears a grinning fox mask and Art wears a bear mask.
(At some point, I might attempt to redo this character art!)
7- #FantasyIndiesSpooktober- POV & tense are not really something that sticks in my brain after. I have to remind myself constantly what book has which, including the ones I wrote. That being said, I am pretty consistent with it when writing (I've done both 3rd & 1st, past & present).
Villain for “By the Light of the Mad Moon”: Seia Belliciana, a Tyrian slaver and necromancer who owns the POV character and has a reputation as a woman who would break a thing before ever letting it slip from her grasp.
Day 6. WIP Villains.
