In the beginning of _A Castrovel Adventure: Part 2_, Lady Vaeol witnesses a strange megafauna sight from the city's walls...

#pathfinder #pathfinder2e #lashunta #castrovel #rpg #ttrpg #worldbuilding #worldanvil

We are again home in the city, right in time to witness a wondersight. The thundertail herd came by, which brought all cityfolk - matrons, outriders, fird-warriors, traders, craftwrights, and grooms - to the docks and walltops. We all bemazed at these hugest Qoelu, snakelike necks wavering gracefully over hill-like bulk, while they waded through Father-Yaro’s flood. Happily they kept to the river’s far side.

Then something dreadful and unforeseen happened. A youngling (big as a flatbark) had wandered up the bank to snag some tree-leaves. Suddenly a new queenslayer broke from the rainwood and struck. The young thundertail brayed, swerving back to its kindred and the River’s fastness, while on our shore we all watched. Yet then forth brunted the grown thundertails. Their tails sail-like whipped and cracked the loft, which we heard even over the river. The first lowered shoulder and struck the queenslayer, who had overaimed on its prey and so went tumbling under the bigger qoelu’s hooves. Squealing funnily for so awful a hunter, it scrambled aclaw to flee, right when the next thundertail’s broad tail slapped against its head. Groggily, like a knocked boxer, it stumbled back into the brushwood; the grown Thundertails afterhunting with earthquaking moans and tails flailing. Our crowd cheered softheartedly for the Thundertails who had saved their child.

The priests took this battle as lucky omen. In elder wont they prayed from the walltop and cast corn. The qoelu’s wayfare, tell they, forebodes Mahaere - Greenmother’s showforth upon the world. So she has blessed us and bequeathed toward ripeness and wealth.

In the beginning of _A Castrovel Adventure: Part 2_, Lady Vaeol recounts how Son undergoes the megafauna migration...

#pathfinder #pathfinder2e #lashunta #castrovel #rpg #ttrpg #worldbuilding #worldanvil

Some news over these last days. We are have crossed back to Father-Yaro’s eastern side, where we go as scout to overwatch the Thundertails’ path. Unlike the Yaruks, and even moreso than the Queenslayer, we have no thought to withstand them. We may try to frighten them or with the beastmasters’ might lead them astray. Yet the Thundertails oncome as the World’s own doom, which has brought many priests to this witness. Also, I have gotten many half-joking redes, along with unstern warning, that I should not try to add a Thunderail to my trophy-crown. I will forbear.

Today we got to see the full wreck the Thundertails make. We had ridden aring and arear their path, where we came upon a farmhold forsaken. While the hometree stood rather unscathed (but a few fences and outhouses broken), the fields were stripped. Nigh three farm-lots of riceberry reeds, likely ripe and awaiting harvest, lay bereft, as if a band of unskilled scythe-mowers had done rough but fulsome work. In some spots even the ground was dug as if the Qoelu had eaten it as well to fill their huge bellies. I cannot reckon this household’s dearth-loss, though they will not be alone.

In good news, the Thundertails forelookingly have stayed on this bank and will not reach the City. Though they can easily ford the River, and the burghwalls would do little to outkeep them, the folk-stench and fire-stench hopefully offstays. While we may hope the gathered might of the soulseers, priests, beastmasters, and the wall-steaded boltlooms could withstand, the misluck would be reckonless. We have word that tomorrow we will ferry back to the City, since the captains reckon the Thundertails are beyond the reach-stead where they may head Cityward. All the farmholds along this path are warned, and the beastmasters do utmost to beswerve these godlike Qoelu from further wreckship, and word is even outsent to the freeholds beyond. All holdfolk should be well afled, wiseless of their...

...What if a matron, clanwife, or queen stands at its cause?

No one has ever said #lashunta aren't capable of evil, merely that they prefer to avoid direct confrontation with each other. Even that is more than open to exceptions.

Lashunta Inspirational Pic of the Week
Pierre Raveneau

Amid Castrovel's seemingly lush tropical harmony, what would this violence represent, especially at odds with assumptions around the Damaya Matriarchy?

Art by Pierre Raveneau - amid a circle of fire lightly, two women are pulled apart by male warriors. One on the left crouches on the ground while the man restraints her. On the right, the other woman is lifted in the man's arms while she reaches for her counterpart. Around them, beyond the firelight, a handful of other warriors watch the scene.

In the beginning of _A Castrovel Adventure: Part 2_, Lady Vaeol gets her chance to take on a Nysshalora - Queenslayer...

#pathfinder #pathfinder2e #lashunta #castrovel #rpg #ttrpg #worldbuilding #worldanvil

Evetide came, and we had to chide the riders not to stir and keep the Shota still. At last, right ere dusk, something rustled through the brushwood. Devaeas, who watched with the lefthand knot (rather from my stead) waved a flag as beacon to ready.

Then the thurses bawled warning. They bucked and fled to the fold’s side further from the brush. I stayed watching the canegrass leaves, which soon tossed and waved.

A nightmarish head forthcame, huge on its short, thick neck, blunt snout narrowing from heavy jaws, and too many eyes. A body, longer than Ess’s whole length nose to tail, followed. Thenceforth perched two chubby arms, laughingly small as matched on their frame, but right underneath two scythe-limbs not so small. Neither anything small bespoke the rear legs lifting its bulk, however, which rose so tall that Ess and I could ride underneath, nor the tail stretching backward so long again. Here stood a nyssholora - queenslayer - the first alive I had ever seen.

On its arrival the thurses howled and flung themselves against the fence, which din drew the queenslayer’s heed. If a qoelu can smile, this one so did bewaring its trapped prey. It hastened forth and easily overstrode the fold’s fence.

Devaeas dropped his flag - our beacon to strike.

In the beginning of _A Castrovel Adventure: Part 2_, Lady Vaeol learns the name of the megafauna horror they are tracking...

#pathfinder #pathfinder2e #lashunta #castrovel #rpg #ttrpg #worldbuilding #worldanvil #selfpromotesaturday #selfpromosaturday

A short path led to a field where the tramplerush had started. Catcorn had stood full ready to harvest, a mistrialsome snack for the four-boatweight qoelu. Now the reedstalks lay torn, and earth trampled where great clawswathes had rent the ground and thrown clods. Devaeas and Elarue read the torn ground and settled upon a track. They bade us follow.

The track led to another canegrass grove, where seemingly a whirlwind had stricken a great forbeaten swath. Among the grove dry gore hung from the canegrass stalks, ground blood-soaked, and scraps of hide and crushed bone lay all about. Something had died here, a yaruk, deemed Elarue when she found a broken horn-crest, and had been eaten. Then my brother Devaea pointed at a clawmark wider than a yaruk’s, and longer, wickeder claws. Queenslayer - ~Nysshalora~ in the Sage-Queens' elder tongue - he named.

Against myself, I froze. I bethought pictures I had seen in the lorehall: an awful banething five heights of a damaya, and born to kill and eat all it meets; a dreadful skull overset in the Citadel’s main hall, with knifelike teeth and fangs swordlike, inset within a jaw that could rip a Shota’s breastbone in half; scythe-limbs that can slay anything it meets. If this wildwaif hunted among our folk, I had no guess what we must do.

I asked Devaeas whither the queenslayer was gone. Then I sent a rider back to the host with word to the captains what we would afterhunt, and our way. Soon as my brother and Elarue read the spoor, we outheaded.

In the beginning of _A Castrovel Adventure: Part 2_, Lady Vaeol contemplate the worst possible outcome of a megafauna migration...

#pathfinder #pathfinder2e #lashunta #castrovel #rpg #ttrpg #worldbuilding #worldanvil #pathfinderrpg

Ere noontide, we got our first qoelu sight: three yaruks following a streambow, and hastily. Soon as they smelled,
they fled into a canegrass grove. Though their heavy claws and fat tails make easy track, it is rough ground to
follow. The captains sent a beastmaster and a troop to afterhunt. Devaeas spoke the yaruks seemed spooked, which
I yaysaid.

Afternoon found us here at Han-Farmhold, where we beheld a fell sight: fields trampled, thursefolds broken, and
hometree and households all forsaken. A scout found the farmers hiding in the brushwood, who aharden what our
trackers had already bewitted. The whole qoelu herd had overrun herethrough, with great loss of health, harvest,
and belongings. While we overlooked the wreck, Devaeas led me aside. Quoth he, nothing in this stroke beread
right behavior, forwhy yaruks, though they greedily settle in a catcorn field or riceberry pond, come not near
households. They mislike firesmoke, and the farmwives’ shotalashu will withstand them.

They would only so run, he reckoned, if something feller and dreadfuller afrightened.

His full meaning-weight became clear as I recked his grimness. Straightway I sought Lady-Captain and told this
rede. At her leave, I bade our little flagtroop to scout and backtrack the yaruks’ flight. Worse things than they prowl
the open moorlands and might follow them her to the rainwood.
A short path led to a field where the tramplerush had started. Catcorn had stood full ready to harvest, a
mistrialsome snack for the four-boatweight qoelu. Now the reedstalks lay torn, and earth trampled where great

In the beginning of _A Castrovel Adventure: Part 2_, Lady Vaeol finds and opportunity with the impending megafauna hunt...

#pathfinder #pathfinder2e #lashunta #castrovel #rpg #ttrpg #worldbuilding #worldanvil

Yesternight Semuane came to me. She sorrowed at their leavetide and yearned for me. She also feared she found a foe in Lady Maiali, who owns grim weight back in Qabarat and may miswreck her livelihood. She swore both me and Remaue truth, however, that she will never do anything to bethreaten us. Then she had to steal back ere foredawn, whereafter I wept in Remaue’s arms, who foretold we will meet her again. Even so, I miss her sorely.

After the Embassy’s boats left, work began for the qoelu hunt. Lady-Mother had yesterday upcalled a fird. Thus today we have more than a hundred-eighty warriors, including sixty Shota-riders. Twenty outriders will host, and both Lady-Captain and Captain Dosuaesh will lead.

Also, I have a flag, even if it is a small unnamed thing. At my call came Tae, Less, and Oshis (I have forbidden Erymi, owing to her bechildness, though she wept sorely), and rightly Remaue. Krastaes came at Remaue’s word, as also did Devaeas my brother and Elarue, who both have shotalashu. Then came someone unforeseen - Lady Istae, who had cracked my rib in the spear-tilt. She outspoke it would be her honor to cleave Krastaes under my flag, whereat I offered to let her ride as my Firstspear. Then came Nae, who has forgiven her arm’s burnscar from the swart-thing fight, and Hanos who had firded under Tae. I reckon us a strong hunting-troop and thrill to lead tomorrow.

In the beginning of _A Castrovel Adventure: Part 2_ Lady Vaeol & Remaue narrowly dodge an inter-civic scandal, and then must ready for a megafauna hunt...

#pathfinder #pathfinder2e #lashunta #castrovel #rpg #ttrpg #worldbuilding #worldanvil

Today’s first thing, Remaue and I hied to Lady-Mother’s house. She met us at breakfast, where we told her the whole tale of Semuane and Lady Maiali. Lady-Mother took it lissomely and spoke we had rightly come. What Lady Maiali’s craftiness may become she knew not, though she reckoned it else than Qabarat’s alliance with Son. She beread Qabarat’s matrons play many games among themselves. Lady Semuane’s bestrivenness could even work a blow against the High Matron Lady Ivassil and so further Lady Maiali’s sake. She bade us have no more deals with the Qabarata and leave this business with her. I took her word with ill mood since the Qabarata will leave soon.

At our leave, we ran into my brother Devaeas, who had news of qoelu-spoor within dayfare of the City. Even grimmer, he got word of a queenslayer’s sight. He read the time now to gather a hunt. I beread that, if the qoelu-spoor is so great as he told, then the Citadel must rouse. I bade him tell Lady-Mother while Remaue and I hastened to the Citadel, where we told Lady-Captain. I shared Devaeas and Elarue are doughty qoelu-hunters, and that with her leave I would bring them on any huntfare. She yaysaid, and also read I seemingly have some willing warriors to follow me (though she spoke no word of a flag), and that I should gather them. Thrillingly we left to find our friends and Krastaes.
