There is a police force in London/Olympia, along with other guards in other sections of the island, namely for the petty-crime guys that I mentioned before.

However, the Young Olympians are the superhero team that is protecting the island.

Fireridge's police force take ACAB as a compliment. They ensure it remains true by only taking recruits who score high on aggression tests and low on IQ tests. They openly veiw the job as controlling the public, not protecting them. They actually receive bonus for harming bystanders.

Getting "unusual law" out of the way: It's a misdemeanour to howl within the city limits. Usually just incurs a token fine, but repeat offenders are muzzled and paraded through the markets.

It's dumb. I know. Not changing it.

Laws are enforced by Internal Affairs or Familial Affairs teams, in the Hidden Oasis. The entire Mercenaries' Guild is combat-trained, so in that sense, they have the world's greatest militia: literally millions in a single city. 🧵

The Wertham Police Department is pretty much what you'd expect: corrupt, incompetent, overfunded, undertrained, violent, unaccountable and rife with internal backstabbing. Too cowardly to go after supervillains, they pass their time bullying regular people and playing Candy Crush.

In alt-future Eloy, money works miracles, and Rochester is definitely able to do some secret shady stuff that gets overlooked. (It’s secret shady stuff to save lives, granted, but it doesn’t look good from the outside.)
