The spirits of the Sun-Drop belief are those of nature, so there is a Spirit of the Abyss (afterlife) which is thought to be a dark unreachable place, only for the dead.

There’s the Spirit of the Void (space) which is not an untraceable place, but is certainly πŸͺ‘

#SeptemberWorldbuilders, how are y'all doing? Tell me about things in your world that represent light or darkness. Do you have any magic, myths, gods, spirits, animals, etc. that embody light or darkness? Either literally or figuratively? Tell me about them!

Week 4: Light and Darkness
27: What stories, myths, legends, etc. have been told about light and darkness? Are there creation myths with these themes? Any gods or spirits?

The background image shows a pink moon on the horizon of a sandy beach. There's a single mountain in the background. The image gives off vibes of peace and serenity and a little bit of magic

There are multiple cave systems, and these tend to have their own ecosystems. Nothing strange social far, but these creatures come to have a shadow nature.
And there's animals like shadow beasts living in these.
In short, don't go exploring caves here.

Jane's story has tons of dark places!

Ancient underground tunnels, designed to redirect the magic from Wellsprings.

The undercity beneath Vizthara, a mixture of sewer systems, and ruins of ancient structures co-opted by the black market, thieves, and smugglers.

The middle-lower crust of Thera is like a sponge. Tons of gigantic cave systems, ravines, etc.

Some are volcanic, some are watery, and most are pitch black. They're so dense they form an underground "network" that spans most of the planet.

This is technically a spoiler, but I want to dedicate a large section of #LionGirl 's rewrite to explore the underground levels of West

These places are the forgotten or maybe abandoned sections of the Library that everyone and even Guardians avoid

Though it does beg

#SeptemberWorldbuilders The darkest, most secret place is probably an underground grotto on the coast of New Zochei. Humans haven't even discovered the entrance yet, much less the assembly that happens there at midsummer every seven years.

In Prophecies, a mighty underground kingdom of dwarves schismed, and one of the sides exited through what had been the kingdom's grandest meeting hall; now the hall has been unlit and considered cursed and taboo for either side to enter, for the last thousand years.

As the followers of Aka have strict rules about never permitting light to touch them, they have create several spaces for themselves throughout Theryl where they can do things like eat, bathe, or engage any other activity that necessitates removing their coverings.

In the Nequinum world, there's a holy spring in the dark forest sacred to Aradia (goddess of the hunt & magic). The women go there for ritual purification (be it for transitioning, 1st period, nuptials, childbirth, menopause) 🧡1/2

There are lots of caves in the mountains in the north of Seyzharel. (That’s where the bioluminescent silk comes from.)

The sapient inhabitants of the Third Sphere live entirely underground.

Uriel’s home has an extensive basement that has almost no lights.

Seyzharel has enchanted crystal sconces that work like touch lamps, but you have to be as baseline magical as an ordinary dragon to activate them.

Tempest likes to create floating globes of light.

After the Enshrouding, the entire realm of Hizril becomes a dark, dreary place covered in the pervasive Brume. Even during sunny days, the Brume hangs in the air like a thin veil and gives the land a mysterious vibe.

The Village is both a miracle of Enclosure life, and also merely a vestibule, an entry to something far greater. It leads on to a Builder complex deep within the Eastern Range wherein a gestalt of 14 π»π‘œπ‘šπ‘œ β„Žπ‘’π‘–π‘‘π‘’π‘™π‘π‘’π‘Ÿπ‘”π‘’π‘›π‘ π‘–π‘  lives in permanent hibernation. 🧡 1/9

Well, in Necromancer's Oath, the Realm Between and the Nexus are very dark. Most other places are dark due to location, the underground light rail, etc.

In Resist, the UnderDistrict is pretty dark. There are lights overhead, but that can only do so much. Serena's lair...

Moka'Durand is the forested northeastern peninsula of AElit. Deep within in it is the god Durandios' home on Earth. Humans don't venture beyond the edges of the forest, but they do bring offerings and build small shrines along the tree line.
