I have been mainlining this album for the last few weeks: Thao & the Get Down Stay Down - Meticulous Bird of Prey
#JukeboxFridayNight
#FlyingThings
Someone here recommended the album (i think @runoutgroover?) & I thought it was pretty good, & then I put it on a […]

The temptation to just post the songs behind my tattoos again is real. But no!
Going with AFI - Bleed Black, because it's the first song of theirs I remember hearing, leading to 22 years (and counting) of appreciation, and absolute chills when I finally […]
@debe.mastodon.nz.ap.brid.gy#JukeboxFridayNight is #PersonalPlaylist
My go-to song of resilience (aka getting my mindset right before going into labour… that being said, I should probably have been ready to give up earlier than 3 days, but oh well; all's well that ends well and all that) is:
Cliff Richard "Never Say Day […]
@joewynne.mindly.social.ap.brid.gyENOLA GAY
- Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark
@donkeyoaty.bsky.socialFifty years is a long time
Holiday House sat quietly on that beach
Free of women with madness
Their men and bad habits, and then it was bought by me.
the last great american dynasty by Taylor Swift
@debe.mastodon.nz.ap.brid.gyIncluding the historical "I have a dream…" speech.
Extreme "Peacemaker Die"
@monkeyking.mastodon.nz.ap.brid.gyFinishing up tonight with a 1980s song about the Nore mutiny in the 19th century Royal Navy with references to the Jacobeans, William Pitt, Thomas Paine and Edmund Burke!
The Men They Couldn't Hang - The Colours
I am a member of the council of the naval mutiny
And […]
@monkeyking.mastodon.nz.ap.brid.gyOccurred to me that Springsteen's career has spanned the Vietnam and Iraq wars.
Bruce Springsteen - Devils and Dust
I got my finger on the trigger
But I don't know who to trust
When I look into your eyes
There's just devils and dust
We're a long, long way from […]
@debe.mastodon.nz.ap.brid.gy2008. One of many historical market crashes.
Our Lady Peace "Fire In The Henhouse"
@monkeyking.mastodon.nz.ap.brid.gyIron Maiden do Charge of the Light Brigade
Iron Maiden - The Trooper
You'll take my life, but I'll take yours too
You'll fire your musket, but I'll run you through
So when you're waiting for the next attack
You'd better stand, there's no turning back
The bugle […]
@debe.mastodon.nz.ap.brid.gyA history that seems to repeat and repeat…
Billy Joel "Allentown"
@monkeyking.mastodon.nz.ap.brid.gyCountry Joe & The Fish - Vietnam Song
Well, come on all of you, big strong men
Uncle Sam needs your help again
Yeah, he's got himself in a terrible jam
Way down yonder in Vietnam
So put down your books and pick up a gun
Gonna have a whole lotta fun
And it's one […]
@monkeyking.mastodon.nz.ap.brid.gyWorth a post just for the lines
And got let down again by some poor excuse for protest -
By idiot ****** hippies in fifty different factions
Who are locked inside some kind of Sixties battle re-enactment.
and
So come on old friends to the streets
Let's be 1905 […]
@monkeyking.mastodon.nz.ap.brid.gyI could probably spend all night just posting historic-themed songs by The Men They Couldn't Hang!
The Men They Couldn't Hang - Ghosts of Cable Street
Like Caesar marching to the East
Marches Mosley with his men
Dressed in their clothes of deepest black
Like a […]
@monkeyking.mastodon.nz.ap.brid.gyABBA - Waterloo
My, my
At Waterloo, Napoleon did surrender
Oh, yeah
And I have met my destiny in quite a similar way
The history book on the shelf
Is always repeating itself
Waterloo
I was defeated, you won the war
Waterloo
Promise to love you forevermore
Waterloo […]
@monkeyking.mastodon.nz.ap.brid.gyLessons of history...
Frank Turner - 1933
If I was of the greatest generation I'd be pissed
Surveying the world that I built slipping back into this
I'd be screaming at my grandkids: "We already did this"
Be suspicious of simple answers
That shit's for fascists […]
@debe.mastodon.nz.ap.brid.gy🎶I've been a fool before
Wouldn't like to get my love caught in the slammin' door
Are you more than hot for me
Or am I a page in your history book?🎶
