*Taz has a 'feeling' during a routine traffic stop

The sudden flashing lights in his rearview mirror pulled him from the haunted path his mind had wandered, yanked him forcefully back to the here and now – he guided the car to the shoulder of the road and pulled over, flashing lights followed close. The traffic, though light at this time of night, zipped past sporadically as Taz powered the window down then turned off the ignition. He lowered his eyes to the side view mirror and watched the officer approach: red and blue flashes strobing; a tableau of gun, belt, radio, vest; the clinking sound of metal and shuffling feet. Taz sat perfectly still, his eyes shifted to the officer but he kept both hands firmly on the wheel. “Good evening sir. Would you mind stepping out of the vehicle please.” The officer was courteous, but commanding. He did not approach the window but maintained a distance, hand resting on his holstered weapon. “Could I ask the reason for stopping me sir? Did I do something wrong?” Taz turned his head to look at the cop, keeping his hands on the wheel. There was something ‘not quite right’ with this officer. He was wearing mirrored sunglasses – it was late at night – and instead of the typical police headwear, this officer was wearing a black baseball cap turned backwards on his head. Despite that, Taz noticed, the man’s uniform was tight, the muscle rippled beneath the shirt, the forearms flexed, his stance swaggered confidence – ‘ladies and gentlemen, the real deal.’ Taz concluded. “You were speeding, sir.
