I'll be there. This can definitely be a topic of conversation if one of us remembers! #ElemMathChat
A3: Visual patterns are amazing... they leverage so much about algebra & sequences (so they AREN'T just for younger Ss)
Impromptu Number talks: if we encounter a math calculation we can do mentally, discuss strategies; gives Ss more tools in math toolbox, makes them more flexible.

I was just talking about divisibility rules with my pre-service teachers earlier this year. My favorite part was that a couple of them kept asking, "But why does that work?" It opened up a lot of thinking! #ElemMathChat
An elem T friend had a Gr3 student who HAD to know why the 3 rule worked, so I speakerphoned with them (pre-Zoom et al). He left the convo determined to figure out why some of the other rules work (and he learned some number theory, though he didn't know that at the time). #ElemMathChat

So fun! Will you be in Denver for NCSM/NCTM so we can talk about this? #ElemMathChat
A3 SolveMe has 3 different routines for number sense. My students LOVE them! solveme.edc.org #ElemMathChat
I feel like this hour is moving at warp speed. Feel free to answer these questions at your own pace. I'll stick around as long as anyone is here to interact! #ElemMathChat
It’s literally amazing what you can do with the simplest moves and flexibility with numbers. I’m still working on training myself to think this way at so many things. #elemmathchat
Super sevens!!
I learned the divisibility rule for 7s and found out there is more than 1 way to determine it!
Shout out for divisibility rules... some of my HS Ss had no idea you could "tell" that a number was a multiple of 3 or 9 etc. Helps w/simplifying radicals & more.

Q4: What manipulatives or other math tools do you use to teach number sense?
#ElemMathChat
I've shared Splat! with lots of people. It's so fun! I turned a few of them into Desmos activities to use with collaborative online groups (previous grant-funded project) and they definitely fulfilled some needs and fostered great conversation. #ElemMathChat
OK - now I have a list of things to google! #ElemMathChat
A3: Math Is FigureOutAble!™ inspires students to develop number sense in ways that build on what kids know. @pwharris.bsky.social , @kimmontague.bsky.social ,& others created a video library of problem strings being used in real classrooms. Their website: www.mathisfigureoutable.com/ps

Absolutely Courtney & Annie!
Decomposing numbers a few diff ways:
Into addends that create our number
Into factors
Into groups of equal/unequal size

It's just fun to tinker and play with numbers and patterns. Once you get started, there are never-ending rabbit holes to pursue! #ElemMathChat
