It’s Banned Book Week- so each day I will post one of my favorite banned books.
Day 4 #bannedbookweek

In a stunning act of literary acrobatics, a local school district announced this week that it has temporarily removed The Diary of Anne Frank from its library shelves following complaints from several parents who argued the book “fails to represent all perspectives.” #satire #bannedbookweek

#bannedbookweek

Before he became famous as a writer, Honore de Balzac owned a printing company. In 1827, Balzac’s company printed a copy of Volney’s Ruins, even though the book was banned during the Restoration. Why did the King fear Volney’s book so much? #bannedbookweek

#bannedbookweek

Thomas Jefferson translated Volney’s Ruins because he wanted the American public to understand the Enlightenment-based principles upon which the United States government was founded. But Volney’s book was banned in France during the Restoration. #bannedbookweek

Except: “When a student sees a book that represents their culture, their lived experience, it causes them to engage more, especially with fostering their academic engagement, because they see a character or an experience that they can connect with,” Williams said.
