I’m in Chicago for the American Public Transit Association conference, and I just attended a session where Allison Davis of @wmata.com gave a presentation on seamless regional transit planning. Those first two adjectives are the future of transit and are front of mind during #WeekWithoutDriving.

Yesterday on Day 4 of the #WeekWithoutDriving I took a visit to the graveyards. I think it's good to reflect on our own mortality, but I also appreciate seeing the beautiful graves people make up to celebrate their loved ones.

On Day 3 of the #WeekWithoutDriving I took a stroll around Kotzebue with Malik, and I enjoy seeing the wildlife we have here. It's fun to see what the tulugaqs are up to too.

On my ride home I picked up remaining lumber for my bench project and saw a pretty mid-density construction nearing completion--street trees had been planted #weekwithoutdriving

On my bike ride to the dentist I saw my friend walking and waved--these small joys are indescribable and can only happen outside of a car! He was participating in a work "step challenge, while I am participating in #weekwithoutdriving

I'm a bit late on Day 2 of the #WeekWithoutDriving, but I did want to mention Friday morning we got our first snowfall of the fall, and it's always fun for me to check it out. Malike had a lot of fun with the new snow too.

Rural folk in the U. S. definitely have some unique (& high) barriers to their #WeekWithoutDrivIng — & everyday getting around, too — but free, zero 0️⃣ fares such as exist in Jefferson County WA may not be one of them.

Week Without Driving starts winding to an end with Multimodal Monday! Use at least two non-car forms of transit throughout the day, such as walking, biking, or taking the bus!

This #WeekWithoutDriving, I challenge you to think about who is not in the room (and why). It's your opportunity to build relationships with disability organizations/community members and to think about what it would mean to prioritize inclusion and accessibility in your work.
It's a winning move.

Happy #WeekWithoutDriving, I'm biking to work with my councilmember @cd13.lacity.gov on a 100-degree day. @thewaroncars.bsky.social ☺️😅🫠

Back home in Chapel Hill. Three tasks completed on this trip to Durham. Visited east campus, downtown and the American Tobacco complex. No car! Mondays are my Durham day. So if you want to meet and discuss Durham articles and ideas, hit me up! #weekwithoutdriving

How's your #WeekWithoutDriving going?

Now through Oct. 8, hop on Lime, where available, and use code WWD26 to get two 50% off rides!

I’ll be honest when I saw the weather on Sunday morning, I was planning to take the kids to Hebrew school in the car. As it turned out, Jayson needed it for a very specific errand, so we biked The Hill route to Temple Micah and we’re no worse for the wear.

Today’s #weekwithoutdriving I visited the dentist by bicycle—and for the first time in close to 8 years of visiting, my normal bicycle parking space was taken! 🎉 Never have I been more excited to find a lack of parking 🤯😆 It was trivial to find another parking space

And I got a ride home from a friend.

Just a reminder: it’s still illegal for Empower to operate in DC.

Taking the bus with Maddie to Girl Scouts on Sunday!

In addition to taking the bus and the bike this weekend, we did do some driving. On Sunday, I went down to the Wharf to see the Indigo Girls live - which was amazing. I used the Curb app to take a taxi there.

Biking as part of my daily commute allows me to see a lot of the ward on my way to the girls’ school and then straight to the office. #WeekWithoutDriving
