So, Mendou's family planned a game for the kids to play with the first romo is "Skill" and they have to sit on their "Favorite cushion..." Well, Ten and Ataru fall in and the wall starts caving in on Mendou and the girls. #UruseiYatsura

((Sees every bodyguard wish everyone a happy new year...over and over and over and over again in higher speeds)

...uh...where's the joke?

(Sees Mendou knock them all out)

...ah... #UruseiYatsura

I'm not that far off actually, as he invited Lum and Shinobu for fun...but Ten and Ataru followed along. #UruseiYatsura

We open at the Mendou family compound where it looks like mom and dad are leaving for their events and his sister just left. HOUSE PARTY! #UruseiYatsura

Up next, we had the Christmas ep, now for the New Years and it's a game of dice. "New Year's Panic: The Mendou Family Game of Trouble!" #UruseiYatsura

I kinda don't like this one...Lum's trying to force Ataru into something he doesn't want, Ataru's borderline antagonistic to Lum...maybe if it were earlier in the series (Strong maybe) but...yeah, not my favorite. #UruseiYatsura

Basically, the idiot writes if he's gonna die, he's gonna die surrounded by all the babes in the show....and Lum gets pissed, so she shocks the both of 'em back into reality. #UruseiYatsura

What I find interesting about ALL of Takahashi's early manga adaptations is the anime versions SHOW where they kinda glossed over subtle details in the main couples manga dynamics but STILL ultimately got to the point!

We go to another world where that fortune did worse than I thought as Ataru's about to die with Lum stuck by his side. He tells Lum he wants to write a will...but it's a trick as he's trying to write himself a good fortune. #UruseiYatsura

You can TELL this was SUPPOSED to be after Ran was shortly introduced but the anime was running on fumes at this point and adapted it here!

Well, Ataru gets conned for another fortune: Namely, even though she'll injure his ass over and over again, it's still lucky Ataru HAS Lum. #UruseiYatsura

Ataru gets forcibly dragged into a church...

...which...means jack squad in Japan...

...but Ataru tries to run, only to find INFINITE churches and he's now locked in a cage...and Lum is forcing Ataru against his will... #UruseiYatsura

Turns out Subspace can make omikuji, the fortunes, a reality.

...

(Writes on a fortune card) "Amy Jo Johnson will show up in a Catwoman costume." Now, where's MY Subspace? #UruseiYatsura

Just as the two had enough, Lum's subspace thingy goes off and the two are in another world and try their hands at a fortune there. Ataru's said he'll get a wife and...Lum now has a wedding dress on. Lum's said the same thing and now he has a tux. #UruseiYatsura

Yeah...Ataru deserved ALL of that! Also I wanna point out this is adopting the earlier manga chapters and contrasts with a leter episode is his whole "pickup" routine!

So, it's time to show their cards and the readings go like this:

For Ataru, he gets the women he wants...they all just reject (And kick) his ass. For Lum, married life is gonna do two things: Suck and blow. #UruseiYatsura

After changing their cards, Atru's new hand reads "Hottie Dumped Hottie Dumped Dumped" and Lum's read "Marriage Bad Luck Bad Luck Bad Luck Bad Luck."

...I think that's the hand of an Indiana Fever fan... #UruseiYatsura

On to one more stempt at a fortune. Lum and Ataru get...very odd cards. Ataru's hand reads "Hottie Ugly Hottie Ugly Oni," while Lum's read "Marriage Hottie Hottie Two-Timer" and are told they can change their cards.

...this mean Lum'll be a two-time lesbian? #UruseiYatsura

Well, time for another fortune read, just 400 yen and a crowd! The doll gets right to the point: Lum is an Oni and Ataru's a two timer...and they're both stuck with each other. #UruseiYatsura

So, Ataru gets a fortune and Lum gets another one, both say HALF the same thing: A rival will go after Ataru...but the rest of Ataru's fortune says she ain't lovin' nothing....so bail while you can. #UruseiYatsura
