What happens when the AI boom meets the same speculation, inflated expectations, and financial enthusiasm that defined the dot-com era? The consequences could reach far beyond Silicon Valley.

The fear is that #TrumpsWar is igniting higher levels of #inflation. #crash #stockmarket #AIBubble
Just to clarify our options.
#AIBubble
Well yeah that too, mostly trying to prop up stock prices cf my two new #AIBubble posts this morning
This is a weird way to introduce this preprint updating my 2021 "is there an AI cold war", but look at the contextualising figures on pages 5 & 17 osf.io/preprints/so... 2/2
thanks to @mhampel.bsky.social for getting those and a lot more of this paper together. #AIBubble
Apparently, the US admin is listening! "[per NYT] Trump is most concerned about economic growth, with AI being virtually the only sector driving the US economy. He reportedly fears the #AIBubble could burst, triggering a financial crisis [plunging] US into recession."

The #AIBubble is possibly the largest financial bubble of all times. The problem is that American AI companies are building insanely large models which are costly and wasteful to train and operate, and no customer is willing and able to pay for it all. Meanwhile, China is building compact models.
“The value of the U.S. #stockmarket is currently near $80 trillion. If the #AIbubble bursts, it can easily lose 20-30% of its value. That would be a loss of wealth of $16-$24 trillion. It is quite plausible the drop would be even larger.” deanbaker22.substack.com/p/the-ai-bub...
Are LLM companies scaremongering about AI causing human extinction in order to cause the government to regulate open source models and create moats for themselves via regulatory capture? #AIBubble

@karimh89
So the #ai companies are now competing with each other to show who has the most dangerous, invasive and criminal product.
Just to prop up their share prices.
And that's what is saving the US economy.
What could possibly go wrong?
Financial analysts warned today that $25 billion in AI funding is at risk due to market overvaluation. Big Tech stands to gain by acquiring cheap assets if startups fail, while smaller firms face a funding crunch as capital shifts toward safer, proven bets. 📉🤖 #AIBubble #TechNews

#OccupyWallStreet was 15 years ago today and we’re now experiencing the next big bubble bound to burst. The #AIBubble being backed by the same financial institutions and banks that caused the 2008 financial crisis. They’re using our money to make billions.
