Malus toringo sargentii, which I am aware has a number of synonyms. These small red fruits are mouthful for hungry winter blackbirds and thrushes. And in April, pollen and nectar for bumblebees (and honeybees).

Rosa rugosa.
these red fruits, as with other red berries, are nutrient rich, with 9 carotenoids, & abundant vitamins A, C & E. Wellbeing woo for birds & small mammals. The Rosaceae are particularly generous in this respect; flowers first for pollen and nectar.

A little early for #wildflowerhour, had such a lovely day yesterday visiting these little beauties! It was wonderful to see that the Autumn Lady’s Tresses had finally emerged after all the rain, always a bittersweet moment, the last orchid of the year to flower 🥰

Lateral veins, leaf attachment and toothing intermediate between parents. Also has a compressed stem with slight furrows either side from crispus parent (much more obvious on a cross section). #wildflowerhour
