The workshop forms part of IHLYI โs participation in the #UNGA81 #First_Committee_on_Disarmament_and_International_Security in New York, where the Initiative is participating as an observer in discussions on disarmament and international security.
Participants also discussed how maritime security connects with the broader disarmament and international security agenda, exploring opportunities to strengthen youth engagement in international discussions and develop advocacy recommendations to address these challenges #UNGA81
In parallel with the #UNGA81 #First_Committee_on_Disarmament_and_International_Security members of the @IHLYIInitiative came together on 9 and 10 October for a two-day workshop focused on maritime security and its humanitarian and security dimensions.๐๐ป๐๐ป

Peace is not merely the absence of war; it is the presence of justice, the protection of human dignity, and the promise of a safer future for communities affected by conflict
Building a more peaceful world requires a genuine commitment to protecting civilians, upholding human dignity, and ensuring that serious violations do not go unpunished.
and ensuring that the rights and experiences of conflict-affected communities remain at the heart of international justice and peacebuilding efforts.
As armed conflicts continue to cause devastating humanitarian consequences IHLYI
reaffirms the importance of upholding #IHL strengthening accountability
These communities often bear the heaviest burden of violence, displacement, and destruction, yet their voices and needs remain insufficiently represented in international efforts to build peace.
Sustainable peace requires more than ending armed conflicts. It demands justice for victims, accountability for violations, and the protection of communities affected by armed conflict.
The IHLYI congratulates Navi Pillay on being awarded the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize! We warmly congratulate Navi Pillay in recognition of her lifelong commitment to human rights, justice, and accountability.
