These are nasal brushing (BMI1NHNE) cells. Grown in ALI culture then scraped off and put in a coverslip base 35mm dish for imaging. We tried 40x1.15 Water and 63x1.4 Oil DIC lenses, both with 1.5x tubelens on a Ti2 stand. Kinetix camera cropped to 512x512 pixels to get the high frame rate at 12-bit.

Just wanted to show how I would present this type of inage. Timestamps, scale bar, raw and processed images. And I think appropriate use of AI (Nikon’s denoiseAI).

I do hope so. It’s tricky getting brightfield images of these cilia so the beating motion can be analysed. Hopefully the super res scope reported does a good job without the AI.

Having seen the news:

thought I'd share a cilia movie captured at UCL GOS ICH with Eriomina Shahaj & Vanesa Papastavrou using simple DIC on a Nikon Ti2 with DIC at 60x1.4. 500 fps here slowed down 20 times. Processed with Nikon's denoiseAI and an unsharp mask in Fiji.
