Omigod, this is the most heartwarming story possible! Backpack (bear 89) is the son of the 2019 winner of Fat Bear Week, Holly (bear 435). In 2007, he injured his foot & a practice of riding on momma's Holly's back had a new meaning: he was mobility-restricted while it healed. So Holly moved him.

Meet Jason Thomas, US marine, and hero of 9-11. In Oliver Stone's film World Trade Center (2006), Thomas was played by William Mapother, a white actor. They say they didn't know Thomas was Black until they'd already started filming. Apparently it wasn't worth the trouble of course correction.

The weird thing about doing a deep clean is that the stuff I always throw out -- old financial docs, admin records, ancient mobile devices -- is also the stuff that historians and archaeologists love to find. Unfortunately, "it will be valuable in 1000 years" is not a good reason to save something.

Oh yeah - Totally escaped me that Squidge.org is officially 32 years old this month! While our origins began in 1992, it wasn't official until we registered the domain in September, 1994.
