Happy to see this being published: lead by Veronika Fontana, we examined changes of traits of butterflies, ants, beetles, and grasshoppers along elevation in our outdoor lab #LTSERMatsch (at @euracalpenv.bsky.social ). ๐ฆ๐๐ฆ๐ชฒ๐๏ธ

Glacier retreat is strongest at lower elevations, with substantial tongue recession & evident ice thinning higher up.
Meltwater is a key resource for Alpine ecosystems. These links between water and ecosystems are part of socio-ecological research at our LTSER site since 2009

Same glacier, 15 years apart. ๐ธ At our LTSER site Matschertal / Val di Mazia, images from 2011 and September 2026 reveal striking glacier retreat near Weiรkugel/Palla Bianca. A visible sign of a changing Alpine climate, with consequences for water and ecosystems. ๐๏ธ๐ง
