There's some of that -- more and different kinds of people have CN views than we assume (not just Whites!). The point of this article is that there are a variety of ways to capture the worldview. We got tired of reviewers being SUPER CRABBY about the measures on the basis of what struck us as feels.

This is good news -- researchers can use any combination of 4/11 items and get reliable estimates. This is collaborative research w allstars @brooklynwalker.bsky.social @aesokhey.bsky.social @mdwilliamsphd.bsky.social @jacobneiheisel.bsky.social just published in Politics & Religion open access. 3/3

We used 10 datasets, some public some our own, and found consistent factor structure that validated the Whitehead and Perry measure; we also asked 11 items and tested 330 combinations of a CN index and found the same factor structure and consistent predictions of eg the Trump vote 2/3

Christian nationalism is seemingly everywhere, but there have been surprisingly few attempts to assess how it is measured; the few articles have sowed doubts (which is fine, of course). We took on this question with much more data than has been used to this point and found consistent results. 1/3

New: Some think the implications of gender are hard coded while others think theyre socially constructed. We asked abt the masculinity of trucks, lattes, nursing, and more. There's not much agreement and a lot of projection. But complementarians are in accord signalling modern conflict over gender.

Why is JD Vance talking about the end times? While he may actually believe it (sure), we have found no better way to focus on the big threat picture of good (us) vs evil (them) rather than their own objective circumstances. And it's an election year! (excited too about the coming book w Jake & Andy)

My review essay looking at two recent books on evangelicals and politics is now out at Contemporary Sociology. In it, I argue that sociologists should think more about how congregations act as plausibility structures for Trumpism & Christian nationalism
