Cancer isn’t contagious. Except, occasionally, when it is.

In dogs, Tasmanian devils, clams and now catfish, scientists have found cancers that can physically pass from one animal to another and continue growing in a new host.

We don’t usually think of cancer as an infectious disease. But in 2024, infections were linked to around 2.3 million cancer cases worldwide. Some can be prevented with vaccines, others can be treated or cured, making infection prevention an important part of cancer prevention, too. The list: 👇🧵
