'The Kelpie Pond' by Jaimie Whitbread

Book 63: Wild Born by Brandon Mull. Spirit Animals #1. Was curious about this very popular and prolific series. It's hardly original but hits all the marks that would make a kid want to keep reading. It's kind of the distilled essence of all popular kids' series.

Book 62: The Twisted Ones by T. Kingfisher. You can tell this was the author's first real attempt at horror, but it has her typical Kingfisher style that makes anything enjoyable. I especially like the depictions of the stones (you know the ones). Creepy.

Book 61: Emily Wilde's Encyclopaedia of Faeries by Heather Fawcett. Emily Wilde # 1. Now this is a good one. Reminds me of Memoirs of Lady Trent with faeries, but it didn't need time to wind up like Trent. Love the scholarly approach and the unique and endearing MC. Curious to see where this goes!

Book 60: The Gilded Wolves Roshani Chokshi. The Gilded Wolves #1. Didn't like this nearly as much as I thought I would, even though I love her MGs! I found it overstuffed with tonal issues, and I didn't care about any of the romances. I think the constraints of MG actually benefit this author.

Book 59: Rumi's Riddle by Eliot Schrefer. The Lost Rainforest #3. Probably the best of the bunch. Rumi definitely has the strongest growth, and his relationship with Sky is sweet. Overall, an alright xenofiction series with a unique setting and an interesting variety of species.
