Bailiffs chasing Scots for unpaid council tax were set to be quietly handed a 12% increase in the fees they can charge. Credit to @hollybruce.bsky.social for challenging.
Honestly, I’m tired. So many of us are just tired. To everyone who is dedicating their time to make life safer for women and girls, we owe you a great deal.
But it doesn't go far enough. We must increase Scottish Child Payment to £40 a week for all eligible children, before raising it to at least £55 by the end of this parliamentary term. This would mean more money for warm clothes, healthy meals and the everyday essentials every child deserves.
Every child experiencing poverty deserves support, regardless of their age. Child poverty is the result of political choices, and this Parliament has the power to make different ones. The Scottish Child Payment has already transformed lives and kept thousands of children out of poverty.
I’ve lodged an amendment to the Programme for Government calling for Scottish Child Payment to be increased to £55/week for all eligible children. ScotGov currently provides £28.20 a week for eligible under 16s, and has only committed to increasing to £40 for children under one - it's not enough.🧵
It's time to build a Scotland without nuclear weapons.
