Editing social science and social science fiction since 2005. Following dragons, dictionaries, and disability justice. Hope is a decision. Find me at Bridge Creek Editing | Academic Editing Circle | Mightier (she/they)
I love California poppies and am so thankful that they are still native plants up here in Washington state.
Let's stop using anodyne labels like "the immigration debate" or "controversy over migrants" and start referring to things accurately. "Expelling children who, by law, are entitled to remain in the country" or "imprisoning toddlers in concentration camps" or "pogrom"

For me, the start of any new #editing project is asking questions ... and now twice in the past two days, I've been told that these questions can be helpful in and of themselves.
Always good to be given a new perspective on the work I do!
I had so much fun today doing a real-time Zoom copyedit and Q&A for a #RomancingTheVote winner.
Novel: a mythic fantasy retelling
Author: absolutely lovely
First chapters: beautifully descriptive and engaging
I am in awe of people who write books. I am grateful to get to work alongside them.
"For the Long Haul: How to Stay in the Fight for a Better World" by Chris Dixon
"Let the Poets Govern: A Declaration of Freedom" by Camonghne Felix
@chanda.blacksky.app writes things I love and respect, and I found today's post (in my inbox) heartening.
I've asked my activism support group if they might be interested in reading one of the books she recommends, together.

My place of employment (a hospital) just reinstituted their masking-required policy for all in light of a marked increase in viral contagions (a.k.a. Flu A and Covid). Do with this information as you will (but I hope you are paying attention).
Please consider helping my brilliant under-employed friend afford these much-deserved writing opportunities, as she remains under investigation by the Department of Education for inciting a riot, i.e., leading a peaceful student walkout in solidarity with Palestine!π

* Happy National Voter Registration Day!
** Yes, I would much rather have these books in paper ... but keeping track of the Foreigner series is difficult, and now I know where to find one when I need it. www.humblebundle.com/books/best-c...
Tasks completed:
- Confirmed that I am registered to vote, at VoteWA.gov *
- Downloaded 38 books by CJ Cherryh onto my e-reader via Humble Bundle **

So Think, Write, Edit, Romance has a lot about prose and a whole section on self-editing. In a moment of wild surmise, I asked the literal Final Boss copyeditor if he'd take a look at it. (When I said I was taking a punt on blurbs...)
And he did, and this is some of what @bcdreyer.social said.
I just stumbled over this ... "perfect for fans of Becky Chambers, Ryka Aoki, and Martha Wells" ... and fell down the well.
I spent something like seven years as the virtual "front desk person" for the SFWA Estates Program and I can assure you that having a clear successor to handle rights to your work matters more than you think. Sometimes people who read and love even obscure books grow up to be film producers, etc.
I didn't think you were reaching out to people you don't know ... but fwiw The Arcadia Project is an all-time favorite for me, and I would happily read anything you write.
I somehow lost my blog post about English titles in the move, and people keep asking, so here it is: refreshed, revamped, even more irritable. Never get a title in your histrom wrong again!
I can't love this enough.
