As the founding executive director of HOURCAR, let me say that it is imperative someone steps forward to rescue car sharing AND bike sharing in the Twin Cities. HOURCAR, Evie and Nice Ride--all community-led nonprofits--were beautiful systems that allowed so many of us to live nearly car free.

A FRACTION of Met Council or MNDOT’s budget could fund this program. A FRACTION of either city’s police budget could bridge the gap.

HOURCAR & Evie provide value to the community every day: members rely on shared vehicles to reach work (47%), medical appts (41%), & saved TC residents $23.7 million in transportation costs in 2025 alone, serving over 3,200 Henn Cty members, including ~1,600 low-income Access plan members.

Yeah, we showed up at 8:30 yesterday (it opens at 9) and the line was already past the stanchions and in front of the Starlink tent. Took us over an hour to get in the door. I’m glad we saw it, but it does seem like the entry system could be improved
