An RCT in treatment of leprosy type 2 reactions / erythema nodosum leprosum (ENL). Tough trial to do, especially in middle of COVID. Underpowered but no clear benefit of methotrexate over prednisolone. Can do better than pred hopefully #IDSky #leprosy

yes, that is true as well, agree.
More diagnostic tests don't always = better or reduced antibiotic prescribing. Well, not CRP in primary care anyway!

Agree game changing!
Notable to me that unlike OVIVA, this will really need to be a partnership change of doing things with orthopaedic teams - surgery itself will need local antibiotic delivery devices planned etc... Not a bad thing at all, it's not an ID-only stewardship change of practice #IDSky
Less is more, ortho-ID edition
Another game changer in ortho ID from the group that brought you OVIVA
Pts with ortho infections who underwent curative surgery (no DAIR) with local implantation of abx were randomized to <=7d vs >=4w ABx
No Dif in 12 mo relapse
Masterful drive and use of DRS!
Is the destination photo as critical?! π
Obligatory "en route" photo to EMBO "the complexity of mycobacterial infections" meeting in Paris.
Looking forward to presenting some of our work on leprosy reaction immunopathogenesis.

excellent coverage. enjoy the off season, though sure you'll be doing other commentary!
excellent summary that!
Very happy to share my postdoc paper is out now in @natcellbio.nature.com titled "Tissue flow acts as a guidance cue for immune cell polarization and directional migration". If you love imaging and immune cells, this is for you! #microscopymonday

A π§΅: 1/n
Antimicrobial use in ECMO is poorly described.
We evaluated AU at our center and found, despite no ECMO specific ppx protocol, antimicrobials were prescribed on 85% of pt daysπ±
Also my teams first use of a bubble plot π«§
that may be true, but it would be a consultation with a very clear end goal of getting a MRI. Hard to steer a patient away from that if that was their entry into the appointment.
Terrible advert on London Underground. How about booking an appointment to speak to a human doctor to discuss medical concerns?
You may be better off just having a separate browser tab. We can definitely make a journal club hashtag-led feed @skyfeed.app or @skyfeed.eu , super easy, but it's not perfect at pulling in all posts and there's definitely a bit of a delay.
TBH i don't think we need to - if there is hashtag discipline, which there should be, then easiest thing is just to click on the hashtag. Much simpler than making a feed?
nice work Chris!
