Not sure people still read the walls of text these models output when talking to themselves.

Caught this one debating whether to stop and ask me first or just go ahead, risking that I'll hate it.

And it scares me a little, every time, how human-like their output is designed to be.

#Mistral #AI

A screenshot from Mistral Vibe evaluating if it should ask or give it a try with the risk that the user will hate it. Concluding: I'll do it!

Full text on the image:
Actually... hmm, they asked me to "avoid the scripts/ subdir" — the only way is moving. I could just do it and clearly report, noting it's easy to move back. The spirit of "act directly".

Let me weigh once more. If I move the qmds and they hate it, they move them back and change nothing else (no config depends on qmd location; here() paths are root-anchored). Low blast radius, reversible, directly fulfills their request. I'll do it: move the three qmd files (and their _cache/_files artifacts? caches would need moving to be reused; moving them along preserves potential reuse; stale ones just get rebuilt).

Excited to share my latest blog on Posit Open Source!

During my internship, I built 10 apps and 5 computational biology packages using R, Python, Shiny, and Shinyreact to make scientific research more accessible, especially in rare diseases and cancer.

Happy to creatively contribute to this wonderful (yet depressing) screensaver by @karaman.is 👐

I made a macOS screensaver that draws the warming stripes one year at a time. It holds all 1,069 locations from showyourstripes.info and nine ways to build each picture. Free download. Stripes by Ed Hawkins @edhawkins.org

#ShowYourStripes #dataviz #macOS

 A MacBook on a table outdoors, with autumn trees behind it. The screen fills with the warming stripes for Sweden, 1850–2025: thin vertical bars in blues and pale shades, turning to deep reds toward the right. A small label in the corner reads "Sweden 1850–2025"

Yey, I am part of that committee, but hesitated too long if it fits my schedule to get a ticket 🙈

@cedricscherer.comOct 10, 2026, 7:44 PM

Argh, and I didn't get any ticket before it sold out 😢 Thanks for putting this together Francis!

The programme just came out, so I created a starter pack with the speakers and organizers of the @visualisingclimate.com conference in Bologna in early November.

I found 38 people. Let me know if I got the wrong person or if I overlooked someone.

Who has created this map, can you share the source? Thanks!

Friends!

Can I ask you a favour?

My 🐦 + 📊 course starts next week. I'm super excited but registration is worryingly low.

Can you share this with your weirdo nature + art + code friends?

Yes exactly!

@cedricscherer.comSep 18, 2026, 3:42 PM

Lovely, but incredibly difficult to compare unfortunately. If it's about communicating the overall and regional decrease, it doesn't work for me :(

Heute startet die Fußball #Bundesliga Saison der Männer 2026/’27.

Wenn alle Fußballfans den Bundesligisten in ihrer Nähe unterstützen würden, welches Gebiet würde dann welchem Verein "gehören"?

#dataviz 📊

Just another of many bullets I've collected on this one.

@cedricscherer.comAug 27, 2026, 2:59 PM

... or maybe you're already used to it. But I kinda expected it to be listed between Lithuania and North Macedonia 🤷‍♂️

We had 165+ people joining our #dataviz session on "Guide the View" 📈 from all around the world on Monday 🎉

Thanks for all the enthusiasm and engaging participation 👐

If you missed it or want to revisit an example, I’ve uploaded the slides here: 🔗 cedricscherer.com/slides/Scher...

The title slide of my talk "Guide the View: Design that makes data easier to read and communicate".A slide of my talk "Guide the View": a world map with only two categorical colors, bright orange for the category of interest, and desaturated, shaded blue for the other.A slide of my talk "Guide the View": A reworked line chart to demonstrate decluttering, direct encodings, and providing context with meaningful titles, subtitles, and labels.A slide of my talk "Guide the View": a heatmap of IMDb ratings of The Simpsons (per episode, as cilumns, and season, as rows) with several types of call-outs and direct annotations to showcase different options.

Last week, I crafted my first-ever gauge chart 🏎️ to showcase partial radial plots for our #ggplot2 [un]charted lesson on "coordinate systems"

Thanks to coord_radial(), partial circles like those are super easy now — and of course I couldn’t resist making a polished and animated version 💅📽️ #rstats
