Narrator: The third time was *not* the charm.

My son and I saw it in a theater! (I love the theater.)

I just saw my favorite animated film of the year so far. Forgotten Island! letterboxd.com/daveevans/fi... Echoes of other great films, all wrapped up in a story of friendship that is deeply steeped in Filipino mythology.

I'll defer to @eeshani.bsky.social (or @seema.bsky.social, whose work among the work cited in this piece), as they've thought more deeply about this than I have.

I have started multiple book proposals on topics that I'm really confused about, but then after each proposed sentence, I think: I'd need to write a paper to find out if this was true. Result: 0 books, more papers, and a LOT of tweets...

Powerful piece by my colleague Eeshani Kandpal (@eeshani.bsky.social) at @cgdev.org, combining a range of lived experiences with systematic empirical evidence on both costs and solutions, with implications far beyond India. www.cgdev.org/blog/price-w...

📣If you are hiring in applied micro (crime, education, gender), you should look at Kennedy Johnston’s very important and novel JMP and research agenda. 📣 I’m lucky to be her advisor. People hiring this year: Feel free to email me.

He was (unsurprisingly) excellent.

Creating a place where all your papers (or whatever) are in one place is very useful. I often go to author websites to find links to working paper or open-access versions of published, subscription-only papers that I may not have access to (very common).

Hey, that's not the originalist Nobel Prize for literature! :)

@daveevansphd.bsky.socialSep 1, 2026, 5:30 PM

Can anyone point me to recent studies or to scholars working on home-based child care in low- or middle-income countries? Self-promotion welcome! I know much of the work on center-based childcare, but less on home-based care.

@daveevansphd.bsky.socialSep 1, 2026, 5:24 PM

I'm not invested in the economics Nobel, but I'm also not convinced it's any more or less worthy than any other Nobel.

@daveevansphd.bsky.socialSep 1, 2026, 5:24 PM

I agree, and I also laugh at the "The economics Nobel isn't real" argument, as if Alfred Nobel was the ultimate global arbiter of what is worth rewarding. It's not like the other Nobels were chosen by some global committee. It's just stuff this one guy thought was high impact.
