Woot woot! 🎉 Congrats as well to Neos @neoscruz.bsky.social for being one of the two Recess 2026 poster prize awardees! Way to go!
Recess time at IMP–IMBA @impvienna.bsky.social @imbavienna.bsky.social ! ✨ Yesterday, Daniel @danielgerlich.bsky.social took the stage to present some of the latest work from the Gerlich Lab. Always a great opportunity to hear exciting science from across both institutes.
Last week, we said goodbye to our PhD student—now Dr. Max @mfdspicer.bsky.social 👋. It’s been a pleasure having you as part of the lab over the past few years. The whole lab wishes you all the best for what comes next. Cheers, Max! 🎉🍻
Neos @neoscruz.bsky.social is on a roll! Last week, he gave his second Monday Seminar, presenting his PhD research to the @viennabiocenter.bsky.social community. Another big milestone in his PhD. Good job, Neos! 👏🧬
At Falling Walls Lab Vienna, 10 early-career researchers had just 3 minutes each to explain a complex research idea clearly and convincingly. Neos was selected among the top 3 pitches of the competition. Bravo! 🎉👏

Congratulations to Neos @neoscruz.bsky.social on placing 3rd last week at Falling Walls Lab Vienna 2026! 🎉 In his pitch, “Breaking the Wall of RNA’s Hidden Shape,” he showed how his PhD work lets us visualize the shapes of individual mRNA molecules inside cells.
Last week, we said goodbye to Enzo @enzozenner.bsky.social and William @williamle2585.bsky.social 👋 . Enzo joined us for a few months to work on his Master’s thesis, while William joined us through the Vienna BioCenter Summer School. It was great having you, and all the best to you both! ✨
Congratulations @golobor.bsky.social and the whole team! Always great collaborating on some very cool science 🧬👏
Thomas Steinacker from @gerlichlab.bsky.social found a way to verify this using optical microscopy and RASER-FISH. He developed strand-specific probes and hybridized them to individual sisters, thus measuring distances between sister loci and visualizing the shift. 8/
