Well, I liked his first two movies as a director (MOLLY'S GAME and THE TRIAL OF THE CHICAGO 7) because he stole everything he could from David Fincher and then Steven Spielberg (who had done a lot of work in pre-production).

In other news, not as good as CARRIE, but I liked BRAINSCAN (1994) way more than I probably should. Was the movie that I wish 967-EVIL was. Did not as much like THE BURNING (1981). Written by the Weinsteins it's definitely a bit more rapey (and obnoxious) than your usual fare.

I am loving the new CARRIE series. It expands on what I liked so much about the CARRIE remake. I'm sorry, but nobody makes me feel more like a woman than Mike Flanagan. I watch his stuff and i literally see myself as the chick in the movie and think guys are cute but dumb animals.

Another good one: EL INFERNIO. It's NC-17 and is advertised as a satire, but content and style wise I found it similar to THE DEPARTED. Is THE DEPARTED a satire? Maybe just barely missed out on an NC-17. If you like THE DEPARTED you might like this one. Was hard finding English subs though.

Really liked Roman Polanski's WHAT? funilly enough. Definitely like it better than THE TENANT, FEARLESS VAMPIRE HUNTERS, or CUL-DE-SAC. Or CANDY, for that matter. Plenty of color and 60s nonsense. And I think it works well enough as a parody of his style.

Not saying it's particularly easy to get through exactly, but I finally have tracked down and seen I WOKE UP EARLY THE DAY I DIED. It's pure attitude- 30s hipsterism filtered through 60s hipsterism filtered through 90s hipsterism. Would actually enjoy a good academic paper deciphering it.

So yeah, I didn't care for BUDDY. The anti-Trumpism and the camp makes it an "us-vs-them" scenario which is very safe. Pure "good" and "evil". It made me realize that horror needs some component where the victim is "implicated" into the suffering (usually through revenge or sex).

Just watched my old DVD copy of MARAT/SADE probably for the first time in some 20 years. Probably the second-best film of the 60s and definitely underseen, shouldn't have waited so long. Part of me kind of likes non-anamorphic, has a sort of underground feel, but no subtitles is a drag.

I'm not sure DEADHEAD MILES is even worth it for Terrence Malick completists. Alan Arkin's performance might be strange enough to be interesting though.
