Whatever one thinks about this place, all of the larger ones, controlled by Zuckerberg & Musk, are nothing but giant propaganda/misinformation/porn/surveillance machines owned by oligarchs actively collaborating with fascists.

Economics Nobel hunches for tomorrow Ernst Fehr. Just turned 70yo. Had a festschrift with many luminaries (and me) and you could see the scope of his influence in understanding norms and social preferences, in contracting, labor, neuro. Chuck Manski for major econometrics ideas on peers etc

Stanford financial economist Anat Admati @admati.bsky.social just joined here.

She’s a leading voice on systemic risk in banks, corporate governance, and finance.

I highly recommend following her here and reading her book The Bankers’ New Clothes.

Germany's Die Linke won last month's Berlin election on a pledge to socialize ~220k flats owned by large landlords. A thread on why housing expropriation is a successful campaign promise, how Berlin's flats became an asset class, and what expropriation would do. 🧵

Front page of die tageszeitung (taz), 21 September 2026: Die Linke supporters cheer under the headline 'CDU enteignet' ('CDU expropriated'). Photo: Jörg Carstensen/imago.Bar chart of the 2026 Berlin state election (second votes): Linke 25.7% (2023: 12.2%), CDU 18.8% (28.2%), AfD 16.3% (9.1%), Greens 14.3% (18.4%), SPD 12.1% (18.4%), BSW 4.7%, FDP 2.5% (4.6%).

New in the JDE: Joan Martínez follows 1.6M Peruvian students from age 12 to 22 to study how teachers' gender bias in grading affects outcomes. Some math teachers' grades favor boys more. A year with such a teacher widens the gender gap in formal jobs and pay🧵

Finally a proper working paper for this study that produced one of the most astounding figures I've ever seen. Basically economics is different from every other field, empirically. This paper looks at the concentration of university affiliations for award winners.

www.nber.org/papers/w35875

Figure 2 from the paper: institutional concentration of university affiliation at time of award correlated with institutional concentration of phd granting university. Economics is the most concentrated of any field.

Happy to see a paper on this topic! Educational findings go against my priors but wondering whether you could distinguish younger vs older children? (Immersive language learning improves integrated education outcomes for young kids?)

Switzerland's glacier report 2026 is out.

Swiss glaciers have lost 5% of their ice volume this year. Only the last 5 years accounted for nearly 20% of the total ice loss across Switzerland. The numbers are devastating.

Very interesting project: Living Science uses an AI agent to reproduce key findings from seminal papers in economics, document what holds up and extend the analysis with newer data. It's like a follow-up paper with robustness checks and extensions. New paper every week.
