I've written an article for The Conversation about what I find most exciting these days: The reach of self-reference and negation in science, philosophy and beyond. Perhaps art?

Shouldn't we be doing it the other way around? Meaning, if we reduce cattle by half, we could give back to nature so much land.
Since we use about 40% of all habitable land for livestock (not only cattle, but mainly), increasing such cattle numbers would imply clearing almost half of our remaining forests and shrublands (one cow needs about one hectare, so 0.8 billion extra hectares).
Thus, to keep everyone "well fed", we would need about 2.3 billion cows. That is 50% more than what we have now (1.5B).
We are about 8.3 billion. Let's be modest and eat only 100gr per day of beef. One cow yields about 200kg of meat, so that is enough for 2000 people in one day. How many cows per day to feed 8.3B? 4.15 million cows per day. It takes about 18 months for cows to reach slaughter weight.
I started watching the great documentary How to Live on Earth with our 12 year old. A Brazilian cattle farmer said that wealth is when people can eat meat every day. How much would it take to give such wealth to all humans on the planet?
Precisely.
I'll give a seminar on "Self-organizing systems: what, how, and why?" at @ifisc.uib-csic.es Nov. 6, 2026, noon (also by zoom, a bit early for the Americas)

where do you get experts on something that doesn't even have a name?
If we have never experienced it, we don't know what are its components.
How can we estimate the probability of something that has never happened?
Will AI slop drown the Internet, and future LLMs be degraded because of the inability to verify all information available?
Happy to share my new paper with Pedro Rivera, Gerardo Febres & @cgershen.bsky.social, now published in npj Systems Biology and Applications ( @natureportfolio.nature.com )! π
Our question is quite concise: can structured novelty be measured and engineered?/1 π€ππ§΅
