Among older adults, #ADHD was associated with increased risk of later mild cognitive impairment or dementia, and higher genetic liability was also associated with greater risk.

ja.ma/4rTD1Io

Figure 2 displays two graphs showing cumulative incidence of MCI or dementia by age. A: ADHD diagnosis (orange curve) shows higher incidence than No ADHD (blue), HR=4.11. B: High ADHD Polygenic Risk Score (orange) shows higher incidence than Low (blue), HR=1.35.

πŸ’¬ Viewpoint: For older adults in Africa, voice-first #MentalHealth care may better match routine phone use and literacy realities than app-based or text-based services.

Developmental changes in GRIN2A expression may help explain the timing of psychosis in #Schizophrenia and support stage-specific and genetically informed treatment approaches. ja.ma/4yvYbz6

Graph plots NR2A expression vs. age. Midbrain dopamine regions (orange) peak in childhood & decline. Neocortex/hippocampus (blue) remain high. A dashed line shows "Experimental reduction of Grin2A in DA cells" from adolescence, leading to lower expression and "Emergence of psychosis."

A context-sensitive road map for #MentalHealth system scale-up indicates that governance, supervision, referral pathways, monitoring, and local adaptation are necessary for sustainable implementation. ja.ma/4hqhhyY

Flowchart: 4-step program scale-up. Starts with Local Context. Steps: 1) Assess needs & readiness (Governance, Workforce, Safeguards), 2) Codesign/adapt, 3) Integrate/expand (via clinics, community, faith groups), 4) Institutionalize/sustain. Ends with 6 Accountability Indicators.

US #MentalHealth and #SubstanceUseDisorder expenditures totaled $174 billion in 2021-2023, or 7.0% of all medical spending, with ambulatory services accounting for the largest share. ja.ma/4hmVBFt

Maternal #PlacentalGrowthFactor trajectories diverged in the third trimester in pregnancies where children were later diagnosed with #ADHD, while endothelin-1 did not differ. ja.ma/4yPn6wW

πŸ’¬ Viewpoint: In #Psychiatry, care for #Deaf and hard-of-hearing patients requires clinical competency because hearing loss, signed language, and social bluffing can complicate the Mental Status Examination and affect diagnosis. ja.ma/47cOyJh

Structural #MRI with machine learning estimated individual delay discounting in college-aged participants, with white matter volumes showing stronger performance than gray matter volumes. ja.ma/3TMXbXY

In patients with #Depression and high #UltraprocessedFoods intake, a low-ultraprocessed-food diet was feasible and acceptable, and depressive and anxiety symptoms were lower during the intervention period vs a regular diet. ja.ma/4xIUhBI

Many studies using #Neurodivergent or #Neurodiverse terminology identified participants through self-report or self-identification, and some did not specify any diagnosis. Precise diagnostic descriptors may improve clinical research and practice.

ja.ma/471eTKf

Table 2 displays clinical diagnoses where neurodiverse/neurodivergent terminology was applied. Autism (68.66%) and ADHD (64.18%) were most common. Dyslexia followed at 32.84%. Many other conditions are listed, with 21.64% of studies not defining it clinically.

πŸ“ Viewpoint: #Cannabis commercialization is a modifiable public health exposure shaped by policies on access, potency, labeling, and marketing. Regulating these features may reduce psychiatric risk beyond legalization status alone. 10.1001/jamapsychiatry.2026.2869

πŸ“ Viewpoint: High-dose #psychedelic #clinicaltrials remain poorly masked, which limits isolation of pharmacological effects from expectancy effects.

More aggressive active comparators and reduced disclosure may strengthen causal inference.

ja.ma/4gX0swJ

Line graph plots pharmacological comparators for psilocybin trials by experiential intensity (x-axis) and breadth of psychedelic experience (y-axis). Psilocybin 25mg and a multidrug combination score highest. Other drugs like THC, DXM, Zolpidem, Amphetamine salts, and Salvinorin A show varying positions from low to high intensity/breadth.

Among women with #BulimiaNervosa, structural #MRI identified lower nucleus accumbens volume and lower temporal cortical surface area vs healthy control individuals, supporting altered reward and social cognition circuits.

ja.ma/477nBql

Two 3D brain plots show cortical surface areas. Yellow-green highlighted regions indicate lower mean surface area in participants with more frequent binge eating, corresponding to negative r values on the color scale from -1.0 to 1.0.

In a Danish cohort, parental similarity for #PsychiatricDisorders was substantial and was associated with higher prevalence and higher family-based heritability than expected under random mating.

πŸ’¬ Viewpoint: In #Psychiatry, large language models should be used as clinical instruments, with clinician accountability and source-grounded verification before output influences care.

ja.ma/4xeSxQq

A flowchart titled "Specify-Elicit-Interrogate-Ground (SEIG) Loop." It shows four steps: 1. Specify (Define task, audience, sources, format). 2. Elicit (Request facts, inferences, unknowns). 3. Interrogate (Ask for counter cases, biases). 4. Ground (Link claims to date, scale, collateral, or state 'not in record').

πŸ’‘ Special Communication: In psychiatry, #PolygenicScores, rare variant testing, and #Pharmacogenomics may have value when used selectively to inform diagnosis, prognosis, monitoring, and medication safety rather than population-wide screening.

ja.ma/3UD8l1I

Diagram shows genomic testing informing prevention in psychiatry across mental illness stages. Before diagnostic consolidation, Primary prevention (Universal, Selective, Indicated) occurs. In the Zone of diagnostic uncertainty, PGS/rare variant testing inform diagnosis. After, Secondary/Tertiary prevention, pharmacogenomics guides treatment, & PGS/rare variant testing inform comorbidity.
