All sorta swords !
#weapon #art

Four swords, alike in dignity. The first one which stands for a short sword for the game I've been hired to work on, is a katzbalger. It has a typical figure eight hilt made of two twisted brass quillions each looping on their side before curving down slightly towards the hand. The entire grip is brass and shaped like a flaring tower, with the crenelated battlement serving as the pommel. It makes for a pretty short but secure grip in the hand, which coupled with a short, thick, double fullered and doubled edged blade made it ideal for close quarter combat in the press of pikes.
The second one stands for a 'bastard sword', which I decided to represent with a wide, flat, cut-centric blade with three hairline fullers. It has a long handle and two recurved quillions made of blued steel, but most of the grip and the hilt are covered in a tightly fitted leather rainguard embossed with the letters BfS in blackletter.
The third was supposed to be a two-handed sword, and since I had to draw a large flamberge later on as well I made this one a simpler greatsword, more like a montante. It has a long decently slender blade with a flat spine going halfway down it, that bears some cutouts arranged in a diagonal hatching pattern. This is not historical but I was kind running out of ideas to make these look very different without being too wildly expensive as a generic weapon. The hilt is made of twisted gilt metal with a side ring, with a gilt brass wire grip and a square steel pommel.
The fourth sword stands for a one handed "war sword" so I went for a beefy bladed arming sword, with a wide hollow ground double edged blade tapering down to a sharp point. The hilt is an S figure made of flat steel quillions, the grip is wire, and it sports a large wheel pommel.

It's clobbering time !!
#weapon #art

A mighty selection of five beat sticks. The first is an arming axe with a scalloped bit and generally made of blackened still on a leather wrapped wood handle. The second one is a flanged mace made entirely of blued steel, with a cord wrapped handle bracketed by two small disc guards. The third one is a warhammer with a steel head made up of a long piercing pike on one side and a two-pronged fork-looking hammer on the other. It is held on a wood handle with gilded fittings, and the grip is made of a richly dyed leather. The fourth beat stick is a long pole hammer topped with a spear head, with two curved quillions sprouting off the half way point of the haft which itself is reinforced for most of its length by a languette. Every bit of metal is browned with age and patina as well as featuring the occasional spot of rust. The last one is a Napoleonic sapper axe but medievalised for her pleasure. It features a long axe bit made of polished steel, with a stout spike on the reverse side, mounted on a beefy wooden handle decorated with brass studs and fittings, the later being embossed with lettering.

Dagger ? I hardly know her !
#weapon #art

A spread of five different daggers. First up is more of a knife or seax, with a broken back shape almost like a clip point, and a handle made of wood and antler with brass ferrules.
The second one is a more classic style, aka a tiny sword. It has recurve quillions and a a black leather rainguard with gold trimming.
The third one is a BIG BOI rondelle dagger with a set of thick gilded disc guard and pommel, with a single-edged blade ending in a reverse false edge, and two deep fullers running most of its length.
The fourth one is one of those so called swordbreaker daggers, a Renaissance style dagger with a complex hilt and a blade with deep notches to lock and bind your adversary's sword, which would usually be a rapier and therefore engage with those pretty significantly.
The fifth one is one of those fancy and dubiously functional spring-catch trident parrying dagger, where the blade splits open into prongs to catch incoming blows. This one is made of bronze and the hilt features the face of Medusa, with the quillions and pommel being made of coiled serpents.

"why don't you put them on that shelf that has space?" no, no, that one is dedicated to the special editions of a completely different genre and i can't cross pollinate that would be madness.

@apersonfromflorida.bsky.socialOct 10, 2026, 5:09 PM

all of the special editions i ordered at the start of the year came in at the same time, and it made me realize that i need more bookshelf space in order to properly display all of them again

ARCHANGEL

A painted illustration of an angel in medieval armor. They are stabbing what looks like a dragon-like creature off-screen with a large spear shaped like a cross at the top. The wings of the angel are covered in anime-style eyes. There is text in illuminated manuscript style that reads: "archangel"

Easily my favorite detail:

There was the incident that became known as "the Lauren error": One day, her daughter Lauren, then four years old, was playing with
the command module simulator at the Instrumentation Lab when she somehow activated a pre-launch program, called P01, while the simulator was in midflight โ€” which crashed the simulator altogether. Hamilton created a program add-on in the technical documentation warning users not to launch
P01 during flight. She also proposed a software fix to prevent the error happening during a real mission, but she was overruled on the grounds that the highly trained astronauts were never going to make that same mistake. Yet during the Apollo 8 mission in 1968, that's exactly what happened: Jim Lovell inadvertently launched P01 during the flight, causing the on-flight navigational data to vanish. Hamilton and her team were called in to solve the error, and after that her proposed changes were
integrated into the program.

As many of you will recall, the poem in the shape of beating Henry Kissinger to death is perhaps the single greatest piece of literature of this century.

Was thinking about this today. Windows installs (by default) to C-drive, "C:\" It's called that because early computers had up to two floppy drives, "A:\" & "B:\". Software developers hard-coded that into early programs & then it just became the default assumption, even after floppies went away.

I think this is a 1980 IBM PC, an ancient computer with two 5.25" floppy drives, a proper CRT that probably weighed 35 lbs, and a massive keyboard built from a typewriter layout.
