In the morning we coppiced, in the afternoon we used some of that wood to build stairs up a fallen down dry stone retaining wall between two fields. The Warleigh Nature Reserve Task Force is growing in number and everyone is skilling up as we go!

Happy volunteers sat on three freahly built steps spanning the gap between two fields, through a fallen down old dry stone retaining wall The half finished steps again but without volunteers. All wood, no screws or concrete just coppiced wood, stone, and spare planks.Phil swinging a pickadze whilst everyone stands back for a moment to let that play out

Portugal Laurel is a non-native but not invasive. We’re concerned about invasive species because by the very definition they’re harmful to the ecosystems they thrive in. Cherry laurel and rhododendron are biggest threats to woodlands in U.K.,

The UK economy spends £4bn a year removing invasive species like cherry laurel, yet it can still be sold in garden centres. Cherry laurel is easily spread, forming dense clumps in woodlands, releasing cyanide, and shading out other species. We'd like to see it banned.

A beautiful four-spotted orb spider, spotted by one of our team members when carrying out some routine tree maintenance at one of our planting sites near Radstock, Somerset.

Paris has been putting them in parking spaces, to reduce the heat island effect of so many cars parks 97% of the time. Blue badge holders get priority, and they keep parking just slowly reduce as fewer people feel the need to drive with so many alternatives also being added. That last bit is key.

Did you know that around 97% of our wildflower meadows have disappeared in the UK, bringing some species of wildlife that rely on them to the brink of extinction?
We are working to restore some of these meadows, in particular at Warleigh Nature Reserve near Bath. shop.protect.earth/products/gra...

Have you ever seen a beaver cleaning his tummy? It’s incredibly cute.

Beavers live along the entire River Avon, from source through Bristol and Bath all the way to to Avonmouth. Who’s Van did they fall of the back of to get there? We can’t say, but Warleigh Nature Reserve is lucky enough to have *two* colonies, and we love watching them get about their business.

We’ve just had the Environment Agency out for a wander around Warleigh Nature Reserve and they’re huge fans of our vision! They’ve got some ideas of their own far beyond what we’d considered, so together we can make something fantastic on the River Avon. www.crowdfunder.co.uk/p/warleigh-n...

It’s walkable from Freshford train which is a connection from Bath. Various buses around. It’s not super close or very fast but you don’t need to arrive at the start of the session. 16 is absolutely fine.

Producing our own timber keeps costs down, but it’s genuinely helpful for wildlife and carbon too.

“Woodlands managed for millennia without humans messing with them” thousands of years ago but with our megafauna extinct we need to recreate their wildlife services!

We’ve been out coppicng in Warleigh Nature Reserve. Just the four of us after the other three discovered they were made out of sugar? Wet, but we got a good start on the second compartment of Hazel, for the benefit of flora and fauna, plus made loads of handy stakes and binders for hedgelaying!

A bunch of hazel and sycamore laying on the woodland floor being proceeded into various lengths for use later.
