My colleague and friend Eliot West is offering a class on writing romance at the Loft soon!

Eliot is a master of the craft, has taught many courses and students about writing, and can help you on your romance-writing journey.

Here's the info:

If you want to be a better writer, 1 thing that'll help you improve naturally: Set aside time in the morning 1st thing to write. It's best to do this w/o consuming anything 1st, as in no phone or coffee 1st. Write for 15-30 min every morning and watch yourself get more comfortable writing.

When I ask, What's your favorite writing prompt? I'm not referring to an AI prompt. I'm thinking more like a creative theme or subject, like "Write a scene with a purple dog in it." Then, a group of writers can use this to practice writing. Make sense? Do you have a favorite writing prompt?

Writing tip: Look out for pet phrases in your writing, ones that you use over and over again.

These echoes tend to get noticed by readers, and they find them repetitive.

Most writers have this habit. Reread your work and keep an eye out.

I've been hacked! Please don't click on any link I've sent you in the last 24 hours or next few days, and never if it seems sketchy.

And never click a Zoom link from someone you don't know or trust. If it's a potential client meeting, send them your video call link instead.

I just stumbled across these magical beings on Sunday.

You mean doing layout in InDesign? Do you have a portfolio?

@ceylanoz.bsky.socialSep 6, 2026, 12:48 PM

A variety of ways. Referrals are my favorite way, and a project I'll have later this month came from a referral.

@ceylanoz.bsky.socialSep 6, 2026, 12:46 PM

That sounds exciting! And you have so many amazing editors to choose from. Good luck, my friend!

Also, marketing is exhausting, in any capacity. So I feel ya there. Writing for fun is like magic. Nothing wrong with keeping it at that level.

@ceylanoz.bsky.socialAug 29, 2026, 4:19 AM

That sounds like a fun story. I'm neurodivergent, too, so I get that. Traditional publishing means jumping through a lot of hoops, and it's definitely not for everyone. That's great that you've done so much revising and self-editing. That'll make it so much better in the end.

@ceylanoz.bsky.socialAug 29, 2026, 3:09 AM

Honestly, right now my schedule's packed with editing work, so I haven't had much time to write. I don't feel comfortable talking about the SFF idea right now because it's not fully worked out. But I'll let you know if that changes. 😉

@ceylanoz.bsky.socialAug 29, 2026, 1:53 AM

You're right! They are! Maybe that's part of the problem. What are you working on?

@ceylanoz.bsky.socialAug 29, 2026, 1:29 AM

I've been in kind of a writing funk lately, but when I'm feeling it, I've been playing around with a sci-fi/fantasy that isn't fully fleshed out yet and a memoir that I might give up on! 😅 What about you?

@ceylanoz.bsky.socialAug 29, 2026, 1:11 AM

A little bit of both. It's definitely hard to get some distance from your own writing. If I make some time to intentionally try to cut them out, then it's not too bad. Sometimes I have a hard time letting go of my words!

@ceylanoz.bsky.socialAug 29, 2026, 12:49 AM

Did anyone else see the lunar eclipse last night? It was pretty cool. I checked it out between 11:30 p.m. and 12:15 a.m. ET (in Ohio). It was just my partner and me whispering in the dark in the parking lot in front of our place, staring at the moon, lol! 🌒

@ceylanoz.bsky.socialAug 29, 2026, 12:41 AM

I think we're all guilty of this! 😄 It works well when talking. It's just hard to emphasize things the same way when writing instead! What's your book about, if you don't mind my asking?

@ceylanoz.bsky.socialAug 29, 2026, 12:11 AM

Say what you mean with clarity and precision (really great-->amazing). Context matters.

@ceylanoz.bsky.socialAug 29, 2026, 12:11 AM

A common writing issue: using filler words. I'm guilty of this: really, very, actually, just, totally.

Fix by cutting the filler word or replacing it with something more accurate (very big-->huge).

Need help? Reach out. I'm happy to help. 🙂
