My physics-based power grid simulation game releases today on Steam!
After 4 years of solo gamedev (and 15 years as a Power Engineer), I’ve built this realistic representation of the challenges managing a power grid.

A power grid simulation and strategy game. Build high-voltage power networks, monitor resources, research upgrades, and adapt to the environtment. Can you keep up with the growing energy demands of your island community?
3. End game has nuclear, which I wanted to seem different as you go through stages to startup the reactor and nuclear fuel supply is a bit of a spoiler. It has renewables (solar, wind, batteries) including grid following vs grid forming inverters. Overall I'm trying to not over or under-complicate
2. I've been requested to add coal for example or hydro, but the island isn't really setup for hydro and most of hydro is water management (a whole set of mechanics to add). If I added coal, you would need to maintain a coal supply either locally through mining (a bit off topic) or through new UI.
1. It isn't a huge list. I would say its a combination of whats useful for the island of this size/type and whats interesting without overwhelming. For example you mostly use an oil powered generator (to start with, so thats all that is in the demo). As part of that you need to maintain oil supply

Solo gamedev/professional power engineer working for over 4 years on a physics-based power grid simulation game. Final release is in 3 days.
I've finally got around to documenting the key features of the game in one deep dive video. Enjoy!
We spoke to @davidmadethis.bsky.social about Power Network Tycoon, turning real electrical engineering into gameplay, balancing realism with fun, solo development, and the move to version 1.0 on 30 September.
Great news! Kenney Game Assets All-in-1 is finally coming to Steam ✨ Enjoy local pricing, automatic updates and a brand new companion app asset browser.
Wishlist to support the bundle, it helps a lot!
Power Network Tycoon is coming to V1.0 release in 10 days! 4 years of development on a physics based power grid simulation game releasing 30th September to PC/Mac/Linux/Steamdeck.
I'm working with a company bringing educational games to schools and I thought its great to get kids interested in STEM. Unfortunately they only do web games so I stripped away the game to its core to run a demo entirely within browser!
