Most people did. I’ve always been a weird one that as a US kid in the 90s I locked onto Naka’s Sonic and rejected the the rest. It’s a big part of what makes me so lonely and isolated 😅

[+]which to add to our discussions. So, instead I find myself posting rants like this and hoping to find engaging conversations about the this version of Sonic I miss so much. I apologize if you simply find these types of posts annoying, but I hope you’ll forgive me for seeking new conversation[+]

[+]make this post at all? A lot of it is simple loneliness. It’s been sixteen years since Takashi Iizuka took over Sonic Team and the tiny group of online friends I have who are familiar with Naka’s Sonic have all agreed not to talk him anymore due to the lack of new content and/or context with[+]

[+]dictate his every action. The embodiment of freedom managed to become a prisoner of his friends, their friends, and his archenemy. I suppose after this rant and another of my posts talking about how it’s unfair to compare the Post Naka Era Sonic with the Naka Era Sonic, the question is why[+]

[+]they also became a focus that deprived Sonic of almost all of his agency in choosing when and where he traveled due to both needing them and needing to be available for them. In short, Sonic’s world drastically shrank as characters who should try to keep up with him instead became anchors that[+]

[+]immaturity that made his friends far more necessary to keep around to make up for his shortcomings instead of being characters that could keep up with the larger than life legend on their own to earn his respect and friendship. Most disappointingly to me, as Sonic’s friends became a necessity[+]

[+], unearned, or the result of the actions and failures of others. A lot of who Sonic was as a character ended up being picked up by Shadow, but due to his vastly different background and goals never manifests in a way similar to Sonic at all. Instead, Sonic was given a lot of traits and[+]

[+]of who Sonic is to the masses. Someone younger, friendlier, and much more social. Yet, these humanizing decisions stripped Sonic of his larger than life presence as well denied him of the unapproachable air he had as a living legend. It took his successes and made them feel accidental[+]

[+] If you’ve read this far and didn’t grow up on Yuji Naka’s vision for Sonic like I did, I’m sure this read of Sonic’s character is likely shockingly different from what you’re used to. For me though, I lost this Sonic when Takashi Iizuka was put in charge of Sonic Team and brought a new vision[+]
