#Ohio once again on a list you don't want to be on. Lobbyists in the businesses of protecting addictive and deadly products from regulation are warping public policy and making Ohio less healthy. Thanks to @ash.org for tracking this info.

Ranking of 10 US states with the most publicly identifiable tobacco lobbyists in 2026. Ohio is 5th on the list with 43.

Among cigarette smokers hospitalized for psychiatric disorders, continuous smoking abstinence over 6 months post-hospital discharge was associated with significant reductions in depression and anxiety symptoms, find Richard Brown et al.

Global Action to End Smoking (GAES) is still largely funded by tobacco company money.

A recent analysis of its 2025 tax return shows that the organisation is funding efforts to influence health care providers and researchers.

Alcohol branding appeared in every World Cup match this summer. 9,266 alcohol logos shown in 3,621 instances - visible for 8.2 hours of play.

Fifa's live feed showed brands even in countries where alcohol ads or alcohol are banned.

Online gambling companies have collected mass amounts of user data. Former DraftKings employees told The New York Times they used data science techniques to identify gamblers who were more likely to respond to promotional offers by betting — and losing.
