This new edition of the Debrief with Ombudswoman Anjinho brings you 3 recent developments from the Office concerning how the European Commission interacts with tobacco lobbyists, access to EU documents and better law-making.
Following an inquiry, we encouraged the European Commission to continue to improve technical solutions to better enable AI providers to estimate their models’ energy use and meet the objectives set out in the EU’s AI Act.
In a discussion with the @netzwerk-ebd.de, Ombudswoman Anjinho spoke about the vital role civil society plays in democracy, the importance of upholding procedures that guarantee fair and accountable decision-making, and the role of her Office as a bridge between citizens and the EU institutions.
Speaking at an event in Berlin on transparency and democracy organised by Investigate Europe, Ombudswoman Anjinho emphasised that the transition from an analogue EU administration to a digital one must be a principled one and called for a reform of the law on access to EU documents.
In the Legal Affairs Committee, Ombudswoman Anjinho stressed the need for transparent, evidence-based, and inclusive decision-making, even in urgent situations. She underlined that participatory democracy is key for public trust and keeping law-making accountable.
