EV MARKET UPDATE: Sales of sub-€25,000 EVs are set to rise sevenfold thanks to EU clean car targets driving an expansion of models on the market.

The consumer’s appetite for small affordable EVs proves the issue is not demand, but what carmakers had to offer.

pCAM, CAM, Cells? And what about recycling? Our new webpage explains the steps involved in making a battery to power your EV.

Understanding how a battery is made is key to understanding where gaps remain in Europe.

NEW: Europe will have enough battery cells for all EU-made EVs under the scope of the IAA, despite industry claims that local content rules are too ambitious. A European battery value chain won't build itself. We need demand-side rules for local components to secure jobs and economic resilience.

Private buyers, who mostly buy from the used-car market, are less and less interested in these outdated, wallet-draining vehicles—leaving leasing companies at risk of being saddled with unpopular inventory.

It is also in their own interest to stop doing so. There are already signs that the Hormuz crisis is severely affecting the second-hand market for diesel cars. 4/

With drivers across Europe being bitten at the pump, leasing companies can no longer use misleading arguments about how car value depreciates to delay rapid EV uptake. 3/

Our latest research reveals five key variables are omitted from standard depreciation calculations. Adjusting for them reduces the value-loss gap between EVs and fossil-fuel cars by 80% to only 2.6 percentage points. 2/

Maintaining strong electrification targets will rapidly scale e-truck manufacturing, the only way to lower the up-front cost of buying an e-truck.

Europe’s truckers are on the front line of the diesel crisis. There has never been a better time to switch from diesel to electric, but we need truckmakers and governments to support them in doing so. Truckmakers should stick to Europe’s 2030 CO2 goals, rather than asking for further delay. 5/

In an industry of small margins focused on profit, this should act as a wake up call for European truckmakers, which must speed- and scale-up the production of e-trucks to remain market leaders. 4/

European truckmakers have dominated the market, but are now seeing increasing competition from cheaper e-trucks from China and the US. In Germany, this would mean €34,000 more savings over five years. 3/

Electric trucks deliver a lower TCO in six out of nine major EU markets. In NL & DE, e-trucks reach their payback time after only 2 years, with savings reaching €100,000 & €85,000 respectively over 5 years. With current high diesel prices, savings could rise to €123,000 & €106,000 respectively. 2/

As EU hauliers face soaring diesel prices, our new analysis shows that electric trucks are cheaper to operate than diesel for almost half of trucks sold in the EU. Electrification remains the only realistic option to protect against future oil crises. More from our new TCO calculator 👇

Any support should be targeted to low income drivers. Fuel duty cuts would only extend the pain for longer and shift the burden onto taxpayers.
