šŸ‘€ NEW: launched today @cbffjuk.bsky.social covid inquiry tracker. We’re monitoring how far the Govt have implemented inquiry recommendations to date. Will be updated in real time. Bereaved families shouldn’t have to do this but we are ā€˜cos we want to keep us all safe. @lawrencedunhill.bsky.social

The Govt has so far responded to three of the Inquiry modules - including 36 recommendations for the UK administration Currently, we judge 11 to be on track with good progress, 19 to be lacking full commitment or necessary action, while 6 have been rejected altogether 3/3

We will provide a rating for Govt action on every recommendation - and they'll be updated as things progress, or fail to materialise. The hope is this puts pressure on ministers to follow through and force the changes that other inquiries have failed to achieve 2/

Public Inquiry recommendations are rarely fully implemented, as Govts change & headlines move on

That's why I've spent the summer building this online Tracker for
@CovidJusticeUK
- to monitor & assess implementation of Covid Inquiry recommendations

Manchester University FT has now admitted to multiple problems with the 12-yr consultancy contract (that was never tendered & had conflict of interest issues) But more broadly, it's had to fix procurement practices across the org, after findings of a wider review sparked by our Qs 2/2

In 2021, I got an anonymous & cryptic letter in the post -simply listing payments to a consultancy firm by the UK's largest NHS provider.

The LONG series of FOIs, appeals & reviews that followed has now led to the trust's procurement practices being overhauled

Apparently dissatisfaction is generally significantly higher among younger people…who tend to use services less. Possibly says something about access and some of the antiquated/difficult routes into seeing a GP and other services

Reasons for NHS optimism from @leonoramerry.bsky.social - Recent uptick in satisfaction (from v low point) - Positive recent increases in scores in various patient services -The NHS has been knocked down before, but it got up again (1990s spirit in more ways than one) @natcen.bsky.social

A feeling the NHS might not be accessible and there when you really need it is deeply damaging & undermining for satisfaction levels, says @leonoramerry.bsky.social @natcen.bsky.social

Headline NHS chart in the newly published British Social Attitudes survey. Bleak picture since Covid- with worsening elective waits, GP shortages & A&E delays Latest data shows Satisfaction levels have stopped getting worse, at least… @natcen.bsky.social

Our Big Read today is on the $2tn monster — a debt-servicing burden that gobbles up tax revenues and has the power to overwhelm elected leaders. ā€œThese massive sovereign debts are having to get refinanced at ever-increasing rates ... Global investors are already starting to get scared.ā€
