110 hectares of woodland created, restored and enhanced, and 8km of hedgerows planted 284 hectares of grassland restoration or enhancement 18,900 adults and 3,600 young people participating in 388 scheme activities and events 450 volunteers dedicated 6700 hours to restore nature and improve habitats

At the end of this month, the Tees-Swale programme comes to an end, and we have been celebrating the success of this partnership between the North Pennines National Landscape team, the @yorkshiredales.org.uk, and all the farmers, land managers, volunteers, groups & organisations involved.
A volunteer on our archive diaries project has become hooked on chipping away at each entry, translating from Caldwell Harpur’s language of Lenish into phonetic English to reveal his life in Nenthead over a century ago.

Nenthead Big Dig took place from 1-11 Aug with community members having a fantastic experience digging in gardens & land around the village. Various objects were found including iron nails, Victorian blue & white pottery, a coin (possibly Victorian) & medieval pottery.
