@studentstalkpols.bsky.social@studentstalkpols.bsky.social@studentstalkpols.bsky.social"And THAT'S the Newshour for tonight."
@studentstalkpols.bsky.socialI really like what he's saying here: don't direct your frustration and anger at people, but at policies and institutions. We can't CHANGE people, but we CAN change human built institutions. Don't want illegal immigration? Make the system BETTER!
@studentstalkpols.bsky.socialI agree! I was pleased to hear that doctor state as a fact that addiction *IS* a disease and in its chronic form requires chronic and ongoing treatment. There still remains some stigma to it, but I hope that we can move past those biases.
@studentstalkpols.bsky.socialI can relate. It is a normal response to a human horror. We cannot become numb to these events. I hope we use these horrors as fuel to build and celebrate our communities.
@studentstalkpols.bsky.socialInteresting factoid: Fentanyl deaths have declined in the last couple of years! This is good news.
@studentstalkpols.bsky.social"Glad you made it back" is a common greeting at substance abuse program meetings. The implication is that there's no guarantee that if you stay in the addiction that you'll EVER be able to get out and back into sobriety.
@studentstalkpols.bsky.socialBOOMSHAKALAKA!!!
@studentstalkpols.bsky.social@studentstalkpols.bsky.socialYES YES YES!!!!!111111
Labels are meaningless until we give them meaning. "Liberal", "Conservative", and "Moderate" are just words and there is no definitive explanation for what they mean to each individual voter. What do those mean to YOU?
@studentstalkpols.bsky.socialTrending early, yo. 🎉🎉🎉
@studentstalkpols.bsky.socialVaccine science is a bit more precise. All vaccines are not the same technology. The COVID vaccines, for example, were mRNA vaccines and NOT lighter versions of the coronavirus, as far as I know.
@studentstalkpols.bsky.social30+ years of Republican control in Texas. How do we feel about the state of our state?
@studentstalkpols.bsky.socialMake your plan to vote NOW. Early voting starts Monday, 10/19/26. There will be a polling place in the ESTAC building. If you're registered to vote ANYWHERE in Hidalgo County, you can vote early on campus!
@studentstalkpols.bsky.socialWe were just TALKING about botched executions in POLS 2305! Here's the most recent example. A horrific situation.
@studentstalkpols.bsky.socialJust like we talked about in class. We shouldn't allow those who refuse to speak out to feel comfortable in their silence.
@studentstalkpols.bsky.socialEducation is a very expensive public good to provide. But it does no one ANY good to try and do it on the cheap. If our elected officials would level with the people about what it costs to provide public goods like education, we'd be better off.
@studentstalkpols.bsky.socialWhat would YOU demonstrate for (or against)? You are a stakeholder not only in American democracy but also in UTRGV as an institution. Your tax dollars support the university. What do YOU think it should be?
@studentstalkpols.bsky.socialMy first attempt at college was at State University of New York College at Cortland, just a stone's throw from Cornell in Ithaca. At the time, SUNY Cortland was celebrating being named one of the top 20 party schools in the country. LOL
