"We cannot trust schools to put the survivors’ interests ahead of their own." @nbedera.bsky.social in @thecut.com about the Cornell 7. Her book reveals how not only are survivors failed by Title IX, but perpetrators often reap benefits of being reported.
But there are ways to protect students.
The most common type of false allegation of sexual violence is DARVO complaints made by perpetrators against their very real victims. DARVO stands for Deny, Attack, Reverse Victim and Offender. It’s a way perpetrators avoid accountability by accusing their victims of wrongdoing.
Thanks to @nbedera.bsky.social, author of ON THE WRONG SIDE, for sharing her expertise on Title IX @todayshow.com and in countless other media outlets regarding the Cornell case: www.today.com/health/news/...
I spent a year watching school administrators do their jobs—and interviewing the students most impacted.
I spoke to @thecut.com in a long-form Q&A about what I saw. Mainly, a system designed to protect perpetrators and punish victims in each and every case.
