It's still too early for me to say that mizu will definitely be in 'x' or 'y', except to say that it's really foundational and we're excited about the possibilities. Mori is part of the family - expect more educational videos!

@shikokuchuo.netOct 3, 2026, 9:38 AM

How does this relate to mirai? mizu cuts communication overhead between processes on one machine, so work can be split at granularities usually reserved for threads. mirai still covers remote workers and HPC. We're working on bringing mizu to the places you use parallelism most.

@shikokuchuo.netOct 3, 2026, 9:36 AM

TokyoR enjoyed the world premiere of mizu today, and Mizu-chan stole the show: lock-free shared-memory parallelism for R, plus a Python binding on the same C core.

Repos are open but pre-release, and the API will change. Feedback welcome on GitHub.

Thrilled to have just presented "Never block, never copy. mirai + mori from Shiny to the cluster" at posit::conf(2026).

The slides are available here: shikokuchuo.net/posit2026

🎤 Just presented “shinyreact: Building Custom Shiny UI with React” at posit::conf(2026)

🤔 Ever written JS or CSS inside an R string? shinyreact moves your UI to React: two hooks on the client, reactive_output() on the server.

OpenTelemetry has come to R 🎉

Shiny, plumber2, mirai, httr2, ellmer, knitr, testthat, and DBI are now instrumented: production-grade traces from R with no code changes. Set a few env vars and telemetry flows to the backend of your choice.

Just released mori 0.1.0 on CRAN — a new R package for shared memory across processes. Parallel R no longer has to mean duplicating your dataset in every worker's RAM.

opensource.posit.comori: Shared memory for R objectsmori is a new R package for sharing R objects across processes via OS-level shared memory. Parallel workers get zero-copy, lazy ALTREP access to the same physical pages — share once, read anywhere.
