I'm offended on the behalf of all manatees.
While I believe in ghosts, I also believe that 99% of the evidence for them is a mixture of suggestion, confirmation bias and toys pretending to be ghost hunting tech. You literally can't create devices to detect ghosts without having already 100% confirmed cases of ghosts to test them.
The Winchester House's quirks comes from an earthquake that caused the top floors to collapse. There's no evidence that Sarah Winchester ever participated in seances.
In general, the Warrens were resoundingly shit humans who openly promoted the Satanic Panic in public and committed horrific Epstein-style crimes in private, so just fuck anything they said about anything.
Families have been living in the Amityville house since right after the Lutz's left and have reported no issues. Pentacles (NOT called pentagrams) are a *positive* symbol of *protection* that got perverted into horror movie stereotypes by Christians pissed at the rise of neopaganism in the 70s.
Look, I usually do a pretty good job of fighting my "well actually" urges, but spooky season gets on my last nerve. So here it is. The Warrens didn't decide Annabelle was demonic until the Satanic Panic made it profitable. They had her sitting out for parties in the 70s.
Another indie book review! This time for the sapphic sci-fi fairytale retelling, "The Color of Time," by Millie Abecassis!
I like swearing.
I don't like books that use the FMC swearing as a selling point.
If a grown author finds a woman saying "fuck" that titillating, then they're still in the early stages of breaking from gender roles and there's gonna be other gender-based nonsense in that book.
Somewhere in the back of my head there's an essay about how our desire for instant gratification has extended to our concept of redemption, exacerbated by modern American Christianity's "just say you believe and you're all good."
((Clarification: This was at an indie pop up event, not a big fancy business thing. I am, in fact, still small time. π ))
Lol, pop up event for a local indie press. I was a contributing author to the anthology and it was the description of my story that sold it.
My first author event is tomorrow and the anxiety is already kicking in. This is about to be the roughest night of sleep I've had in awhile. π«£
Going to town on the restaurant salsa and chips even when you know the burrito I ordered is going to be MASSIVE.
While I was making dinner I was afraid I put too much garlic salt on the broccoli. Like... too much garlic salt???? what???
The percentage of books off the site users have reviewed compared to how many they requested. Receive a lot, but don't review and your ratio goes down. They suggest you keep a minimum of 80%, but I'm going for 95.
Another book review!
This time for the nonfiction, "History's Great Drinking Games," by Elliot Martyn!
Thinking about the Goodwill cashier who thought crochet's "magic ring" was called a "miracle circle."
Y'know what, close enough.
