In 1995, Massachusetts got back 87% of its bottles for recycling. Last year it was 33%.

The deposit rate hasn't changed, and that’s the problem. Next door, Connecticut doubled its deposit and the numbers went the other way.

So many things I want to say, but first: thanks for sharing this. I've never seen this before. Second, I share the same attitude when it comes to people who already have jobs. For those on the market for the first time, suit up.

Roughly 7 million people visit Munich for #Oktoberfest. There are ~600 breweries in the state, but only 6 are allowed to pour under the big tents.

Even the prince whose family started the festival can't get in. How does a beer cartel last this long?

A recruiter says bringing iced coffee to a job interview signals you don't take it seriously. Gen Z says that's absurd.

Both sides are describing a Nobel Prize-winning economic idea.

Diesel just hit a record $6 a gallon, but history says it won't come back down nearly as fast as it went up.

There's a name for this pattern, which I broke down in this week's Monday Morning Economist: www.mondayeconomist.com/p/oil-and-ga...

The US Open sold 738,459 Honey Deuces last year at $23 each. Organizers expect even more this year.

Sales increased faster than attendance over the past few years, but what's changed? This week's piece explores whether the experience economy can explain it: www.mondayeconomist.com/p/an-overnig...

A Virginia flight school just became certified as DC's newest airport, but It's 40 miles from downtown.

That sent me looking for the last time a major U.S. city built a real second airport instead of expanding one it had.

The answer's older than you'd think: www.mondayeconomist.com/p/nepa

That's not even the most popular course I teach! I also have one on the Economics of Crime.

More housing lowers prices, but more highway lanes don't ease traffic.

The same economic logic produces completely different results. The reason why comes down to one idea that is easy to overlook.

You've got the makings of a potentially great game for high school economics teachers to use for review. I'm sure you've got an undergrad who could code something up over the weekend.

Thanks for sharing this. This topic induced the most conversations in my sports econ class last semester.
