If you are an NIH funded scientist and have not commented, you are agreeing that this change is a good idea. If, you, like me, think ditching peer review is a bad idea, take the 5 minutes and post a comment.

To the moon and, more importantly, back.

The kiddo has begun her annual October blitz of #Halloween pop-culture blog posts! This year's theme is #vampires and today she's got a great post about WHAT WE DO IN THE SHADOWS. Give it a read if you love #horror, #movies, or just want some fun media commentary. #FilmSky #HorrorSky #HorrorMovies

One ran down the block parallel to ours on Christmas a couple of years ago, and we were trying to figure out whether that was more or less than 50 yards. (It was 90.)

We also get sheep brains, for neuro. Teaching in the classroom after that class is pungent.

I once got an email from a bio colleague saying that he'd be late to a meeting because "a bucket of bees that was supposed to come tomorrow got delivered today."

New paper 🍼📄 ManyBabies 3 is out (open access, registered report in Developmental Science). 30 labs, 33 languages, 839 infants set out to replicate a textbook finding: 7-month-olds learn abstract rules from speech (@garymarcus.bsky.social et al., 1999). We didn’t find it. 🧵

I'd be in for Lifetime Original Movie-style recreations of fraud/falsification cases. You know, something like MONKEY BUSINESS: The Marc Hauser Story.

My older brother is an outstanding musician, so I spent much of my youth being taken to his concerts & complaining about their length and frequency to my parents. But when he played the Kennedy Center, I knew how cool it was and I was proud to go to DC to see him. The hell with this garbage.

And it's a premise that was solid gold 50 years ago and is solid gold now.

If you have romance, retirement communities and nursing homes might be delighted to have it. They see high demand for that genre.

Uh... no... has yours? (This article uses pseudonyms for some of the cats, as though Mittens asked that her real name not be used.)

I need to rethink my assignments given that none of them require the classic Mystery Hunt caveat that "the correct answer only requires very safe and legal behavior!" (And you also probably don't need to call the Marriott in Tbilisi.)

The link to comment on this proposal is in the RFI. Please, please comment. This is nonsense.

The NIH just released a proposal that will apparently hide peer reviewers’ impact scores and percentiles from the research team, their institution, and NIH program officers. All the better to obscure how funding decisions will be made primarily via political review, I’m guessing.
