Day 45 - Caveat (2020)
3 for 3 with this Damian McCarthy guy.
Another perfectly lit, well paced and superbly acted film.
I enjoy his common themes.
Looking forward to whatever he does next.

Day 44 - Oddity (2024)
Another one from the Hokum guy.
This one’s good too!
(For many of the same reasons)
I like to follow the Prime Directive and not spoil plot on the well written ones, ‘cause i hate spoilers, but can go pages on my beloved Films Of Lower Brow.

Day 43 - Hope (2026)
The scale of this thing.
I don’t wanna say too much, a half hour in i was already thinking this was an all-timer.
When cgi has to be implemented, it is not the best, but the design and everything surrounding sells it.
Can’t wait to watch it again.
@robcrow.bsky.socialFinally finished my library, collating thousands of books into an app & back onto my shelves with still boxes of boxes of doubles and overstock. Now I’m correcting all my app mistakes & trying to Tardis my office into finding more impossible space.

Day 42 - Hokum (2026)
So much better than it looked!
Usually a film this thick with atmosphere leans on it like a crutch, but this is an intriguing story breezily paced, all the acting is great (especially “Jerry”) and some Sacred Harp thrown in there for good measure.
@robcrow.bsky.socialI watched with director’s commentary and this motherfucker just sits there and watches the movie. Seriously, will go about about half an hour without saying anything unless he’s on screen and then he dadjokes something like “where’d they get this guy?”, like, every time.

Day 41 - The Midnight Hour (1985)
Comfy, but very goofy 80’s tv movie filled with middle-aged teenagers, most notably LeVar Burton a full 8 years after playing Kunta Kinte.
There’s a song and dance number that will cringe you under the table.

Day 40 - VHS: Mixtape (2026)
The rule of thumb on these is that every other one is good (more good stories than dumb) and last year’s was perhaps the best and conversely this one is perhaps the worst.
Pro: This one has GWAR
Con: This one has GWAR

Day 40 Bonus - Beware: Children At Play (1989)
Filmed in my beloved Pine Barrens, this is a mostly boring bad-actor wasp-fest, but i am here to tell you, friends, that the last five minutes are perhaps THE GREATEST IN ALL BADFILM HORROR HISTORY!

Day 39 Bonus - Insidious: Out Of The Further (2026)
Hey, this one’s pretty good!
Kinda.
I mean, it doesn’t stick the landing, but it was creatively brutal and it took a full 40 minutes before something fucking stupid happened.

Day 39 - Insidious: The Red Door (2023)
This one had some good bits in it, like the concentration thing and props on using the Biff Rose number, but the sanctimonious attitude is so painful.
@robcrow.bsky.socialNot ahamed to admit i more than welled up watching the trailer for this Shaggs documentary.
@robcrow.bsky.socialNo, but we have several other projects together in various forms of completion and he is still Lick Myheart’s guitar tech.

Day 38 - Insidious: The Last Key (2018)
Look, i can appreciate this film being an allegory on stopping the cycle of domestic violence, but none of these films has any reference to basic police procedure.
Body dont get cold before they trampling all around a crime scene.
@robcrow.bsky.socialWe’re doomed.

Day 37 - Insidious: Chapter 3 (2015)
Worst one so far, but now i just kinda wanna get through them to see if any of them are “the good one”.
@robcrow.bsky.socialNo, but the skeletons fighting in my front yard are.
@robcrow.bsky.socialA reminder that this record comes on Friday.
Everybody buy one so i can brag to my therapist (i’d never really do that).
@robcrow.bsky.social#HorrorADayTillHalloween26
Day 36 Bonus - Insidious: Chapter 2 (2013)
Takes the Poltergeist thing and straight up shoves in Aunt Martha from Sleepaway Camp.
I feel stupid for watching these.
@robcrow.bsky.social#HorrorADayTillHalloween26
Day 36 - Insidious (2012)
I always get this confused with Sinister, which i always get confused with The Conjuring.
Takes a slice of Poltergeist and beats it into the ground.
