Earth is getting hammered! Thanks to a fashionably late solar storm impact and continued flaring from Region 4549, impacts at Earth are strong. Aurora should brighten where skies are clear. Radio & GPS suffers increased signal degradation and noise. Conditions will worsen over the next 24 hours.

Our Sun continues to dazzle with an M6.7-flare from Region 4549! Radio operators are being hit with an R2-level radio blackout on the dayside of Earth. It also launched a solar storm. This is now the fourth big solar storm headed towards Earth. Expect more to come from this highly unstable region!

Conditions at Earth have lit up like a Christmas tree! The GEOCHRON shows the radiation storm continues to grow more intense. This is causing ROTI turbulence zones (purple splotches) to increase. High-latitude GPS users & airline pilots should remain vigilant as signal degradation is possible now.

Look how fast the radiation storm rose. Higher energies (100 MeV) reached the S1-level 30 minutes before low energies did. This means the blast wave was extremely strong, despite only an M1-flare. This is why we cant judge the strength of radiation or solar storm launches by solar flare intensity!

Old region 4520 may have submerged back under the surface since September 3, but it sure has not lost its eruptive power! It fired an M1-class flare, hardly an R1-level radio blackout, but in the same breath, it launched a massive solar storm to the west of Earth along with a strong radiation storm!

Region 4524 makes an entrance with an M3-flare & high R1-level Radio Blackout! It also launched a massive solar storm to the East of Earth. Here's the GEOCHRON view of the R1-radio blackout over the western hemisphere. Degradation is likely over the next hour through the 20 MHz band on the dayside.
