a McLaren drove into a pothole in Poland and that maxed out the insurance of the municipality. the question is of course: who drives a McLaren over Polish country roads? […]
of course I already am thinking about modifying it. but I think it's important I have it running first. right now i have an (almost*) stock LFS I compiled myself. and i am already thinking on how to change the init system (runit) and install a package management system (pkgsrc) *I say almost […]
I never realized the penguins at Linux boot are a kernel option.
compiled the kernel, finished Linux from Scratch, added it to grub, booted into the system. works.
I can't say that was a quick process.
I think if i did it again I would automate a large part.
does anyone have a good way to download all the pictures of a #pixelfed account in one go?
for reference: I am in fact building the 12.4 System V version
I actually do wonder if there is a big difference between both, or if it's really just the last steps and the configuration. I assume systemd actually penetrates the system much deeper than just the init scripts
Only days in I realized they had discontinued the System V version of the book, to focus only on the systemd one. And here I specifically started this project to see how a unix-like system is actually built. I mean, systemd IS a very powerful tool, but there's something neat about not having a […]
Linux from Scratch is taking even longer than expected. I guess mostly because I never have the time to really focus on it to the end. I've been working on it on the side the whole week, and had to go back multiple times because I messed up something. There is something slightly insane about […]

@DoroBZ versuchter Mord oder zumindest Totschlag (aber ich wuerde da eher Mord sehen)
So FamilyLink allows me to block all apps on my kid's phone, except for google. Guess whose kid just figured out you can watch videos on Google itself?
It used to be all browsers could use gopher natively. I remember ocassionally coming across gopher pages during the 90s
Anyway, to open the link you'd need either a gopher client (I have DeBurrow on my phone), a browser extension like OverbiteWF, or well, a proxy like floodgap...

Gopher is an internet protocol that allowed to serve content via text files in a menu-driven interface. It was an early contender to html, but fell to the wayside pretty soon after the web became the next big thing with all its shiny pictures and moving gifs. It never went completely away though […]
