Oh hi internet, I fixed your STUPID MEME

The original creator has written out in felt tip (so as to appear especially legit presumably) a bunch of things they say were predicted at the time but apparently “NEVER HAPPENED BUT ALL RESULTED IN MORE TAXES”

I have fixed it thus:

“1960’s - OIL GONE IN 10 YEARS”
Yes, we’ve been wrongly predicting peak oil for over a century - but did it result in higher taxes? No. Policy makers and industry leaders dismissed Hubbert’s peak oil theory of this era - it wasn’t acted on.
“1970’s - ANOTHER ICE AGE IN 10 YEARS
No. Please see the scientific article “THE MYTH OF THE 1970’s GLOBAL COOLING SCIENTIFIC CONSENSUS” And about a million other sources discrediting that this consensus even happened, let alone raised taxes.
“1980’s - ACID RAIN WILL DESTROY ALL CROPS IN 10 YEARS”
We have scientists and environmentalists to thank for fighting HARD for strong government regulations and improved tech to reduce acid rain but it remains a huge environmental problem for the countries that we outsourced our factory industries to. There’s no indication that the regulations resulted in higher general taxation.
“1990’s - THE OZONE LAYER WILL BE GONE IN 10 YEARS”
The Montreal protocol FAMOUSLY led to a staggering 99% global reduction in ozone depleting chemicals meaning the ozone layer is now actively recovering - pretty amazing what can happen when governments listen to scientific consensus and work together, huh? For some industries taxation DID increase in order to enforce compliance, but there’s no indication this led to an increase in general public taxation.
“2000 THE ICE CAPS WILL BE GONE IN 10 YEARS”
Even at the time, scientists criticised the likes of Al Gore for repeating as if fact a prediction made in conversation based on one particular ice model, whereas the IPCC was
actually at this point predicting sea level rise based on ice caps melting over the next 100 years - a rate that we now know is actually much SLOWER than the 12% arctic ice we are in fact losing per decade.
